View Full Version : Humbly Asking for Help on Fusing Interests into Business

Greetings to Everyone,

I'm Andrea--a SAHM from Florida w/ 3 kids. I've been derailed with a chronic illness for over 10 years but like Engine #9, I'm still trying to get back on the track. My problem is that I have too many diversified interests and what I would like to think of as talents--I can't think of a way to fuse them all together to come up with my own particular niche. I'm asking anyone that has read my post to give your opinion--I would really, really love to hear it.

I Love to: READ--mostly sci-fi, fantasy, medical topics, various periods of history, myths and legends, historical medical topics, wildlife, astronomy, physics, aromatherapy and herbal medicine and a host of other topics that I can't readily think of now (it's 3:31 A.M.!)

LEARN--I will never, ever be bored. There is always something new to learn and what is already known can always be explored to greater depth. I would absolutely love to get paid for doing nothing but learning--this is the ideal and perfect job but I don't think it exists.

FIND SOLUTIONS--I love problem solving and coming up with new ways to look at things, finding answers, and UNDERSTANDING whatever I have a question about. I will tirelessly look for an answer/solution/reason to the (many) questions and subjects that have pulled me in with their invisible hooks. Very global in thinking--I only need a few pieces of the picture to solve the puzzle.

BE ARTISTIC--more like, 'i want to be artistic'. I don't have any particular talent but I am extremely good with shapes, color schemes, patterns...etc. I do have a small flair for writing and putting words together well--this is just feedback from family members, English teachers, and other kind folks.

BIG MINUSES--Only have an associates degree in laboratory medicine...no other 'formal' skills to speak of and very little job experience earned over a decade ago. Very disorganized, yes, absent-minded professor type, distractable, procastinating, deadline hating, bored and awful with routine tasks and need cerebral excitement to function at peak efficiency. Some of this I can blame on inattentive type ADD; some is simply me.

That's it and I apologize in advance for the length. If anyone replies, well, I thank you in advance and wish you well in your endevors as well.

Andrea,

I'd like to offer a book for you to check out.

Zen and the Art of Making a Living: A Practical Guide to Creative Career Design (Arkana S.) by Laurence G. Boldt

I really helped me "figure out what I want to be when I grow up."

It's more then a book, it's a work book (and it's BIG), but by working through the process it helps you focus your interests.

It's available through amazon, but I checked it out from the public library before purchasing it.

I hope that helps!

Thank you. I will certainly check it out. I must admit that I am having an exceedingly difficult task sorting out what I'd like to do because I have so many interests. I hope it gives me the guidance you received.
