A snow day no longer means a day off for the growing number of Delaware workers who have the ability to work from home.
As more workers become equipped with laptops, cell phones, palm pilots and other gadgets that help them keep connected with their office, employers are expecting them to honor their commitments even when they are stuck at home, experts said.
"In a situation where you have a snow storm, where it can be hazardous to commute, certainly having the ability to work at home enables an employer to minimize that risk to the employee and still get productive work out of them," said Robert L. Smith Jr., executive director of the International Telework Association and Council in Silver Spring, Md.
