How did you decide to start freelance writing?

As I've already mentioned, I'm a student at the moment and although I plan to work as a journalist, I still think of freelance writing as an option for my future. I wanted to ask you how was that to decide going freelancing? What was your motivation? Thanks in advance:)

My motivation is quite interesting! To make a long story short, I have children who I'm not willing to put into daycare but I must work to help out with the bills. I had just lost my job as a newspaper writer/editor and so it was natural for me to transition from that to freelance writing/editing. I still do most of my work for newspapers.

What I like about freelance writing is that i can write about anything I want, and it's a pretty good pay to do what I love to do - write!
