The Health Solutions Business Unit is seeking Remote Medical Coders. The work may be performed from our SAIC Shalimar, Florida, office or from the coder's home anywhere in the United States or Europe. Work performed from coder’s home requires internet access and home computer to support web based coding.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Scope: Codes all types of medical records according to diagnoses, operations and procedures using appropriate classification systems. Provide outpatient coding of clinic encounters, APVs and/or ER encounters to include general practice, all specialty, optometry, physical therapy and mental health coding. Provide feedback for training opportunities in documentation areas to auditors. Services shall cover the entire range of ambulatory coding services typically provided in a very busy multi-specialty civilian practice. Code procedures and diagnoses from patients records using ICD-9, CPT, HCPCS and follow DoD Coding Guidance primarily with reference to the Air Force Standard Workload criteria. Compiles, maintains, analyzes and reviews patient medical records for completeness and accuracy. Performs coding assignments that are routine and/or complex in nature, requiring a limited to high level of judgment. Has a minimal to high role in decision-making. May be an informal team leader.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/SKILLS: Three years or greater of coding or directly related experience. Able to code a minimum of 115 encounters with a 95 percent accuracy. Certified Coder (RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CPC or CPC-H). Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, pharmacology, surgical and medical procedures sufficient to code for accuracy. Knowledge of accepted medical abbreviations and their meanings and interpretation. Knowledge in the use of specialized references such as medical nomenclatures, medical dictionaries and texts and medical journals to accurately spell out and use medical terminology. Knowledge of basic computer functionality.

DESIRE SKILLS: DoD/Air Force medical coding experience preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, pharmacology, surgical and medical procedures sufficient to code for accuracy. Knowledge of accepted medical abbreviations and their meanings and interpretation.
