That's awesome Erin,

I just added your site to the 'Warm Hearted Moms' section of the Teatime Page (http://www.freelancemom.com/teatime.htm).

That sounds great, I'll see you there. I have an eight year old daughter with Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 3...SMA is a disease which affects the anterior horn cells...the messengers to the muscles, and type 3 usually only affects the lower torso and proximal muscles. As a result, my daughter walks with a gait, on her toes and falls quite easily. She gets tired after walking only about a block so she uses a wheelchair for long distances.

When a family finds itself gifted with a child with special needs...and I do see it as a special gift...it allows an opportunity to see through all the trivial and meaningless things in life, right through to the heart of family, togetherness, being in the now and appreciating life and what we have been blessed with. Of course, I did go through the stages of grief when she was first diagnosed and that is perfectly acceptable and normal to feel anger, bitterness, depression and frustration...but knowing there is a light at the end of the tunnell, and that light is learning to "Be here now" and to "accept what is" is the most gratifying feeling in the world...and it is because of my daughter that I now see a different way of living...that I create my reality...and if I want to work at home, I can...if I want to live in another part of the world where there is socialized medicine, I will (and I now do)..."we are the music makers and we are the dreamers of the dream!"~Willy Wonka

Hi! I've started a parenting website and I have a short inspirational movie on it about the special needs child. I think you'd enjoy it. Can you give me your input, as a parent of a special needs child? My dream is to develop a sensitivity awareness program which integrates this movie that I can get going in mainstream classrooms. What are your thoughts? I've gotten mixed reviews on the concept.
