Have you ever tried a family night? Each member gets to choose the activity for the night. One week might be a board game. One night might be a movie. One night might be dinner in the park and then a walk. One night might be getting tickets to a play, or concert at a local school. The ideas are endless. Who else can share some ideas for family night?

Good idea! We don't exactly have family night but we do have one night a week where we sit down together, do some Bible reading (or something related to Bible study), then have a treat and maybe go to the park or something special like that. We really enjoy it!

Now that we have three kids each one needs some alone time with each of us so we need to start doing what you guys do! :thumb:

I too spend alone time with each of my kids. That time is really important to me.

We should have a family night each week - but Shaun works shifts and he closes on different nights all the time so this makes it hard. I love to have impromptu fun nights with the kids though. Last week we ordered pizza (momma was feeling lazy), laid a blanket on the livingroom floor, and invited all of the kids' stuffed animals to join us for a pizza picnic supper. After that we popped up some popcorn and watched a movie together and played Connect Four.

I also take each child out seperately to do things one on one. I took my oldest to see a movie last week and to play arcade games at the local cheapy movie theater. Lots of fun.

I agree with this 100%! We try to do this each week on wednesday nights. Sometimes other things get in the way and we miss it, and try for the next night or the next. This night is for boardgames, or crafts. Then every Friday, it's family night again but it's a good rated kids type movie with popcorn and snacks with lots of cozy pillows and blankets. The kids love this. However, Weds. night thing has more family talk and communication. Now it would be ideal for this to happen every week but I must admit, it doesn't! SO let this be a reminder to ME to give it more effort.. the laundry can wait!!

Marlo - that is a great idea to have a special one-on-one night with each of the kids seperately. I think it makes them feel special, you have a chance to talk about what is going on in their lives and really have a chance to listen to each other. I think a lot of the times our kids stay *our kids* in a pack somehow LOL! They need to feel respected and important as individuals as well as part of the family.

Maybe one night you can all cook the dinner, each person cook one dish. Another week all of you can try some crafts or origami, which can be used to decorate the house.

I love when my kids cook dinner. My older daughter has been learning non recipe cooking this summer. Not all meals come with a recipe. So she's been learning how to taste and season. It's been fun.

We play LOTS of board and card games. Current favorites are Uno, Risk and Monopoly.

We also have lots of camp outs in our livingroom :) It's fun - we put a movie on and everyone falls asleep out there all together.

That does sound nice MaryDawn :)

Sometimes we have campfires in the backyard. That's always wonderful too.

Campfires in the backyard? How fun. I've not done a campfire for quite some time. Oh how I miss those smores :)

I haven't done that in a long time either. We used to go camping all the time, but things have changed since then. Would be fun to go again. :)
