Where do you put your articles?:t9:
And do you get money for writing them?
There is a list I put up long ago here: http://www.freelancemom.com/submitarticles.htm
These places don't pay - just allow you a link to your site in your bio.

Lori,
What a great list :) I submit to a few places every time I write a new articles. After that I submit when I have time.
I ALWAYS submit to ezinearticles.com first. I get more hits from that site than any other site out there. The other two sites I always submit to are ladypens.com and buzzle.com I had some time on Saturday and so I submitted articles to less known directories.

I write articles here http://www.helium.com/user/show/43948
The pay is not wonderful, but, they do pay you. I've earned almost $50 so far, and I just joined at the end of January.

Nice sites. Thanks for sharing. Have you written blogs or discussions? I personally find blogs and particularly discussions easier to write.

Hi. As well as submitting articles to ezine articles to drive visitors to my site, I also do some writing for Constant Content. They act more like an agent rather than a straight buyer of content, so you can charge your own price for your precious work, not get ripped off by the big boys for a few dollars per article. They have plenty of buyers who search thsir site for good content and are prepared to pay decent money for it.
I've only been with them for about 2 months and already got paid $104 for February - I sold 4 articles full rights for $40 each. CC take 35% commission out of that, so I got $26 for each article - not bad. So far this month I've sold 2 articles usage for $20 each (so I made $26) but there's still plenty of time to go before the end of March.
I can see my earnings building as I keep submitting more articles and my portfolio grows. I don't tend to write very long articles if I can help it, so between 500 - 700 words is average for me. One of those will take me around an hour to write (and edit).
Ok, it's not a fortune, but it's just one income stream to go with other things.

I write for a variety of Web sites, but my main writing gig is the weight loss topic on Suite101.com. They recently changed the rules so that feature writers can contribute to any topic, not just the one we were originally assigned. I've been writing there for about a year now and I like it.

I haven't ever submitted any articles, but from time to time I do use one of the free-to-reprint articles in my working mom blog.

Can someone tell me how many words an ideal article should have? That is, how long or short should i make for more people to read it?

The ideal article should be 400 words give or take 100. Most of mine fall between the 350 and 450 range. Many sites won't take articles under 300 words.
