I would like to take a poll, of sorts, from the women of this website.

1.)What do you think the percentage of women who make their FULL time "living" at home is?

Hi,

I suppose it is odd to have a man post @ a freelancemom forum.

The questions came about as I was preparing a report to post at a newsletter and an article site or two(Articlecity/Digg.com).

It is my contention that the percentage of WAHMs may be larger than the average person believes it to be.

I am curious as to whether the average wahm is selling product, working from home(online/offline) for a conventional business, is an affiliate, eBay, owns their own web business, or whatever?

The focus will be toward the viability of working at home as apposed to conventional jobs. I am just looking for numbers and a few facts.

I apologize if I alarmed or offended anyone. I look at wahms with great respect and admiration.

Just wondered why you were asking. While only direct sales based, have you viewed the statistics page at http://dsa.org/pubs/numbers/ It shows the number of women versus the number of men, they type of product being sold etc. Again, it's only direct sales, but it will give you some of the answers you are looking for.

I guess this one is tough. If I only take into account the number of women who are making an income and not the traditional stay at home mom I would have to guess the number is pretty small. Maybe 15%?


2.)What do you think those women do?What business are they in? (Serious answers only, please.)

My personal believe is that most are doing in home daycare. Simply because I know a lot more people personally who run daycares as opposed to those in direct sales which would be my second guess.
