Here's a tip from Patty Benton, http://www.jerpat.org/va/VirtualAssistant.html a fellow member of one of the VA mailing lists that I belong to.

She has created a brochure for her business, and sends one with a covering letter in reply to job ads in her local newspaper. She has a graphic showing the cost comparison between employing someone and using a VA, plus all the othe advantages.

I've just finished creating a brochure and letter for my business - looking up the stats for the UK was the hardest part! I tailor each covering letter to suit the job I'm "applying" for - I'll let you know how I get on with this promotion plan.

Hey! That is exactly how I started out marketing my business 4 years ago (has it been 4 years?). But you know what I discovered? I got a ton of calls from people who didn't stop to read that I wanted to do this work from home! After being frustrated trying to 'pitch' my idea to someone who really wasn't interested, I gave up.

I may pick it up again, but my experience has taught me that it is extremely difficult to sell yourself to a market that isn't ready to outsource. Either they are, or they are not. It is hard to change their mind. I think time/money can be better spent elsewhere.

Do let me know how it turns out for you. Maybe people are more open to the idea now, or in your area :D

Best of luck.

The problem in the UK is that almost no-one has heard of VA's! I'm hoping to raise the profile a little.
