How do i set up a membership site?

I want to set up a membership site and need some help. What do you recommend for software for ease of use and hacker resistant?

I want a membership site like simpleology....
If you have a membership site like simpleology 101 is free, 102 paid and 103 paid...what software can set up this type of membership site?

I need to know if the main domain url should be the optin page example
www.maindomain.com is the optin page...then this gets to members area
www.maindomain.com/members...then to paid members area...

What do you guys recommend for membership site management... Is there a book or course that explains all the mechanics...step by step...
