Hi! New to the forums! :D

I was wondering if anyone had started a newsletter as a home business. I have seen a newsletter as a franchise, and it's an interesting option, except for the investment part!

Thanks for any help!

Kat

I have not started one as my only business, but I do have a few. There are many ways to make money online and newsletters are one of them for sure!

What type of topic? You would need some type of landing page/fly catcher page in order to get their email addresses. And decide how you would promote this in order to get sign ups.

I'm thinking more like a newsletter that can be distributed locally. We have many local coffeeshops, and restaurants that I could distribute a newsletter to. This newsletter would be free to them and their customers. Where the income would come from is through advertising. I would like to support our local small businesses, and these are the clients I would be targeting. I think that supporting these businesses is important.

As for topics, I wanted to create something that would be upbeat, and light. I also wanted content that would be short in word length. This would be for people who like to read while on their coffee or lunch break. I'm looking for free content and probably low cost content soon.

I really think this would succeed in my area. I've seen this type of newsletter in Ontario (where I'm from) as well as franchised.

Hi Kat!

I've entertained a similar idea myself in the past. It's certainly feasible to do.

You could get a lot of free content by inviting the local schools and town hall to contribute announcements/stories.

Let us know if you go for it!

I work with real estate especially rental property. I am looking to start off with a monthly rental directory. Both the ads from investors and possibly advertising businesses would cover cost but content would include basic decorating or home owning ideas to community events. It's always good to have something good to center the newsletter around and will keep people looking for your next issue no matter whether they need the other information or not.

Good luck.

Hi everyone,
I am new to the forums as well. I was thinking of a newsletter myself as a marketing/home business tool. I was thinking of centering it around the creative/freelance industry and offering marketing tips and such as articles. Then freelancers, marketing firms, public relations and so on could advertise. I would target small businesses, art buyers, non profits and anyone who could benefit from creative work etc. It would of course be free to and have the income come from advertising dollars.

What is your take on this?
