I have applied for several positions with guru and have not received any response. Does anyone have any suggestions or tips on the proposal to really get noticed?

Thanks,
Missy

Hi my name is Tonya

I applied for a sales/marketing job and got a response the next morning. Problem was I wanted a truly hourly job at the time so I could begin making instant income not based on sales and he was looking for any and everyone for help. I changed and updated my admin profile and have only submitted proposals for three positions but with no response. Well I say all of this to say, I believe there is just a lot of competition so find something to make your resume stick out and keep at it. Oh by the way I haven't upgraded yet either. I only submit proposals on positions I'm really really interested in and I'm hoping I get something before my proposal limit as a free member are expired.

One interesting that did happen to me recently though is I received an email about a potential data entry position. I'm going to sit in on a conference call tomorrow. Hopefully it is a real job. It actually sounds like a response from one of the positions I submitted a proposal to. Just looks like they took some time to go through the applicants.

Good luck, stay with and pull all your resources.

Take care.

Tonya

I've known a few people that got contracts through guru and elance.com. I don't know what their tricks are, but I'm here to tell you it's possible. Hang in there.

I've bid on several projects at Guru but received very little response. I landed one thru there, and I've been invited to bid a few times; still, I think it's a viable market, although I believe that Elance has them beat hands down.

Best of luck!

Bidding on these sites for work is really an art. You have to come across with a lot of confidence but you can't be too wordy in your bid. Make sure that your grammar is correct and if possible address the prospective client by name.

Be certain also to really take the time to read through the project description and where applicable refer to it when you bid.

The first gig is the hardest. Once you have that under your belt and some positive feedback -- it really does get easier!

Hang in there... ;)

I've had quite a bit of success on Guru.com. Actually the one I did, lead to her referring me to friends... so it kind of domino'd into other things. I still bid all the time and get inquiries often. I think most of the time I bid too high. There are people over in India that will build an entire website for $5... so it's tough competition. Good luck!

What's your secret, Jennifer? Do you pay for your subscription? I had a paid one for a bit but it didn't pan out, so now I am free, which limits the number of bids I can do. Any tips you have would be great.

thanks!

Yes, I do pay a quarterly fee. I can't remember what it is though. I can bid on unlimited projects. Each time a new project is posted, I'm sent an email notification. I also post my website so that they can view my portfolio easily... it really helps for people to get a visual of what you can do. Do you have a website? Hope this helps!

Hi Jennifer,

Yes, I have a web site and I get a bit of inquiries off of it, but I like being able to go in and bid when I have a lull in work. The thing is, I haven't gotten much of a response in guru, and I didn't think we could post a direct link to our portfolios, so I hadn't done so. Maybe I bid too high, I'm not sure.

Any ideas or thoughts you have would be great. I used to use Elance a lot, but it just got to be too expensive for me, I'm afraid.

Thanks :D

I think you can only put your link in there is you are paying. I do it all the time, so maybe that's it.. Im going to check out Elance... did you get good business from it?

Yes, I did a lot of business thru Elance and I have considered using them again. I was hoping to find a less expensive option, however. Best of luck!

Hi - If I really dedicate myself to bidding, I can make Guru.com work for me. I've been a member for a year now and I find that a lot of the same projects posted on Elance are on Guru.

The trick??? I would suggest that you don't ask for top dollar. Invite the buyer to review your profile and contact you. Offer a guarantee.
