Viral marketing is not as bad as it sounds it is simply distributing free information. By giving free information on any topic people feel more informed and educated there is no pressure to buy anything, because the information is free if people like it they are generally more inclined to share it with other people, if not the information gets discarded. For the information to take on a viral effect it obviously needs to be very informative and not a waste of time for people.

The movie is free to view and caught on like wildfire. Educational professionals all over are purchasing cd's of it now to share with their co-workers and the site gained amazing exposure amongst parents.

Wow I didn't know viral marketing could be so powerful. I always wondering what I could to my methods of internet marketing. Currently I just create blogs with good content an if the user likes normaly they will want to know more info. ButBiral marketing I think could be a big help to my online ventures.

In theory, another way to generate advertising that turns viral is when you write an article and submit it to high traffic article directories. If this article is well written and offer value to the reader, webmasters will start publishing it on their sites. Since you have included a resource box with your site URL at the footer, your link will get spread all over the web producing a viral effect which in turns would generate traffic to your site.

You are right. Per se, they are not the same. Only when that ebook is getting distributed or marketed in such a magnitude that produces great amount of traffic to the author's intended resource, then the effect can be called viral.

I try to, at least with articles. Viral marketing is not a thing you can control entirely. You write an ebook or an article hoping for the best. If they generate interest, they will get distributed. The level of the viral effect will depend on the quality, interest and exposure they get.
