Which is more professional or typical when writing web site content relating to a virtual assistant business or other sole proprietorship--using "I" or "we"? Since this is a solo operation, it feels a bit weird when I refer to my business and services using plural instead of singular pronouns, but I've seen other home businesses use this approach (e.g., one of my friends who does graphic and web design from home). I suppose it is conceivable that when I get the business up and running I might be subcontracting to others as needed. Just wondering what others have done. Thanks.

That is a really good question.

I think because it is a service, and because you aren't outsourcing yet - singular is better.

I would use it to my advantage though -- letting them know that because you work as a solitary independent contractor you only take on a limited number of clients. In this way you can ensure that their projects are handled with the absolute best care.

On the other hand...

If you do plan to outsource as you grow - plural may be best. You will want to prep your clients that they may not always be dealing one on one with you.

I guess that doesn't help much! LOL

Use I

Right now it is important for you to build your reputation, to sell yourself and your strengths.

Great tips ladies! I have to agree that I would use the singular while you're trying to build the business

I use we because I knew when I started that I wanted a partner to handle "local" clients. Plus like Lori said, if the time comes for me to outsource work, the clients are already prepped.
