I'd love to know more about you! When did you get your start at home? Was your VA business your first business? Is it your only one, besides this website? What have been your biggest challenges with your business (s) and your favorites aspects of them? :D

Hey Nell :)

That's sweet of you to ask! I've been working as a VA for about 4 years now. I got my start with customer support and data entry. Tasks evolved to website maintainence and more 'online work' that caused me to get a more solid html background.

Once I was introduced to photoshop I realized that what I really loved to do was design and I've been growing more successful recently finding design work.

For my main client I manage his customer support department, and do most of his design and internet promotion work. It's great - he's truly the ideal client to work for and covers my financial bottom line.

I have other clients though - website maintainence, internet promotion and some word processing work for an appraisal company that I juggle.

Recently my husband quit his job and joined me. We share an office, he's much more of a techie - and does coding and database design. It's very romantic!

FreelanceMom is really my baby. I have some other sites too but haven't maintained and promoted them properly yet. http://www.promotionhub.com, http://www.associatehub.com, http://www.outsourcingideas.com, http://www.freecontenthub.com are all mine.

I have about a zillion domain names registered and in the pipeline. Honestly I am much more interested in design, seo and promotion then I am in Virtual Assistance. But it pays the bills. Its only been the past few months that my own sites have come a few hundred shy of paying the mortgage - you know? Eventually I'd ideally just like to work on them.

For me the biggest challenges have been managing the growth of my business and staying true to my ideals as a Mother. I work very long hours and am not real good at keeping a sane schedule. The absolute best part about it though is having a toddler in my lap most the day - being here for every part of the kids day and at home when my teenage son gets home from school. I wouldn't have it any other way :)

I'm not real crazy about maintainence and eventually will hire help with that. I love promotion and internet marketing - love to design, but don't really enjoy FINISHING the design! I've got some discipline issues I guess :funny:

Oh wow! This is my dream! I'm working towards the goal of $5,000 a month by this time next year so my hubby can quit his crappy job and stay home with me.

A woman after my own heart! Although I really enjoy working with one of my clients and learn soooooooooo much from her, I do hope to eventually make a living just from affiliate marketing. Right now I make about 1,000 a month with affiliate marketing. Actually this month has really dipped low. I think it's because the summer. Last year my traffic/income dropped during the summer months, but I'm working hard on all my websites and am adding more each month so I know I can bring my income back up.

WOW! Are we twins seperated at birth? lol. You could be describing me!

Isn't that just the best? I wish more mothers would see how possible it is to be home and make a living. I always knew I'd be home with my kids and I've been blessed to do so.

LOL! I hear ya. I have a VA help me with lots of things I hate to do so I can focus on the things I love. She answers email and all that stuff. I love the creative part of designing, writing sales copy, adding content...etc.

Well, Lori, I'm glad I came across your forums! It's always nice to meet other moms who have a lot in common with me. lol.

So how old are your kids and how many do you have? I have one son, 13 months old, and the joy of my life!

Wow - 5k a month is a good goal! I know you can do it Nell.

It really is incredible to have the whole family at home. John is still getting used to it, but he has de-stressed SO much. It's also great to have both of us here to share responsiblity for the kids and house.

Does that figure include googs too? My income really seemed to drop off in the winter which surprised me. I'm currently brainstorming some promotions I can do to keep things flowing through the holidays.

:yup: Very cool. I'm so happy to be getting to know you!

I have three - ALL boys! Orion is 13, Max is 4 and Jack is 2. I'm telling you, I honestly wish I could just keep having them. I love being a Mom so much. But I guess that's my fair share :D

LOL. I thought I was the only one who called them "googs". hehe. Yes, that figure includes googs. I make a nice amount with googs, but have been growing my other affiliate income as well. I hate to rely on one source of income. But googs treat me very nice.

You know, I have found the same thing too. I see my business drop off a bit from about Nov. to the beginning of Jan. But I'm hoping with a variety of websites this year that I won't feel the drop off as bad this Winter. If I can get them built up by then.

I can just tell by your picture that you love being a mom :D Are you going to have more? We just have the one boy right now, but I would love to have another one in a year or so. I'd love a girl, but a boy would be nice too.

I'm thinking the exact same thing Nell. I'm so glad you take the time to post over here. You have such terrific, energetic energy. I'm inspired :)

I really honestly would love to have another - but I don't think we will. Three is a big family nowadays. If John really wanted another, he wouldn't have to convince me though :D

You SHOULD have more! Your son is so beautiful - and you clearly love mothering. I visited one of your blogs and it is name something like 3girlsandaboy? What's that all about?
