Hi Rochelle,

Great to have you here! You picked a good niche! Everyone needs a bookkeeper and almost nobody expects you to work in their office :)

I would suggest that you check out elance (http://www.elance.com/c/splash/main/publish.pl?rid=AAGT&f=sellerfunnel1) if you haven't already. I hired my CPA in the bookkeeping/accounting section there and I noticed that there is a fair amount of action.

Also - I would take out a local ad. We have a couple of bookkeepers in my area who advertise regularly to small businesses.

Let me know how it goes!

Lori

Lori,
Thank you so much for your advise! It's actually so funny how I got in to this. I am about to have my first child in 3 months and I was kind of stressing out about our finances being that we would be relying entirely on my Husbands income, and we figured that might be a little hard. But my Husband and I were determined to find a way cause I want to be home for my new upcomming baby girl. I work as a receptionist and I have done all kinds of data entry and financial reports. So anyways, there is the small business that works next door that I became friends with, also when my work was really slow here I would go over there and help them out with there Quick Books, although I knew about Quick Books. Anyways, I became acustom to it, and they asked that when I was done at my current job, would I be there bookkeeper. I said Yes! cause this ment I could work from home, and be with Emma. So I am now enrolling my self on an online class to learn the complete ins and out of Quick Books, and in three months I get to start to working from home. I just want to make sure I am doing everything I need to do. I will also eventually advertise to small businesses in Riverside, after I get cerified in bookkeeping!!!

Hi Lori

I loved the advise you gave Rochelle the elance site is very good and yes it does look great.

I have one question Lori, have you used this site often, did you use the site to hire and find jobs?

Please let me know.

Thanks

Pauline

Hi Pauline,

I have used elance many times to hire help. Both for myself and on behalf of clients.

I prefer to fill jobs through this forum when I have them though - but sometimes the qualifications or interest isn't met here. Elance is then the very next place that I go.

Best Wishes,

Lori

Hello! and welcome.

I did bookkeeping from my home office from 1999-now. I started moving into design about 4 years ago and that's where my passion lies now, however, I was working very successfully as a bookkeeper with clients from New York to Seattle. I had been bookkeeping for 15 years and it was time for something new!

Anyway, bookkeeping is a very good freelance niche. If you need any tips or have any questions, feel free to ask.

Best of luck and keep me posted - oh, what course did you enroll in?

Hi Everyone,

I am posting this because I am in the process of hiring one or two virtual bookkeepers for my business and a client's business. I need someone who has experience in bookkeeping, using Quickbooks, Excel and the internet. This will be a great opportunity for the right person as we are growing rapidly. We all work at home and know the benefits of being able to be with family.

If anyone who feels they have the right experience would like to learn more about the position please feel free to email me at raquel@cyg.net or phone (519)291-6460 and ask for Raquel
