Hi all! I looked into VA training on the web and would seriously consider enrolling in the future, but right now, it's a bit on the expensive side. Ideally I would like to jump right into building a practice of my own and then consider my training/certification options; however, I feel like I do need some training/credentials of some sort, in order to provide competent, competitive services. If anyone could direct me to specific skill based training/certificate (and affordable) programs online I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

Jen

I think the training programs, while they have their place, are only going to help you in the entrepreneurial sense. You have to have the skillset to go with with it. Of course, you also need business know-how and that's where some of the training programs come from.

Make sure you do your research on them. I don't think that some of them are worth the bandwidth they take up on some VAs websites, but that's just my opinion. Training and certifications are popping up all over the place. Be careful.

As for affordable, you don't say what you consider affordable. I hold all of the IVAA (http://www.ivaa.org)'s certifications. I think they are well worth it. But again, these are certifications, not training. I already had the skillsets so it wasn't necessary.

Again, do your research. You can never know too much!
