Wow, I've finally made some time into my schedule to participate in forums (this one and others). I love to read others' success stories and can't believe there are no recent ones here.
I challenge others to post their success story (keeping in mind there are different definitions of success). To start, I'll go.
This is the 6th year I've worked virtually. I started doing some transcription when my first son was still an infant (he's now 6.5 and has a little brother who is 4.5) and over the years I've built my business from working only very occasionally to working 5 days a week. I've co-authored two books, and edit and ghostwrite for others. My income has gone up every year, I'm able to spend a lot of time with my kids, go to conferences, work from the comfort of my home, and LOVE the work I do.
I'm proud of all the VAs out there. I KNOW it's hard to start and grow a successful practice, but it can be done.
What's YOUR success story?
Lauren
Hi Lauren,
I have been a VA for about the same amount of time as you!
We have kids the same age too :) Well - I have four. 3 boys - 15, 6 and 4 and one baby girl - 4.5 months.
I've tried transcription in the past -- omigod that is hard work. Do you still do it?
What are the books you've written?
Thanks for the good post. I hope we get some other success stories too!
Lori

I do transcription very rarely...usually I subcontract it. The topics I've dealt with have been interesting, but I get bored with the transcription process itself.
My two books are Write It Right: The Ground Rules for Self-Editing Like the Pros (this gives a 5-step process for improving your own writing), and Entrepreneurial Freedom: How to Start and Grow a Profitable Virtual Assistance Practice.
I've also edited books for a number of others, both self-published and traditionally published. Almost all my virtual assistance is writing or editing related. I do ghostwriting too.
Better you than me with four kids, lol. I really admire parents that have more than two. Last night my boys got hit with a stomach virus. One at 4 p.m. and one at 11 p.m. As soon as one stopped vomiting, the other started. Ugh. Today is laundry and steam cleaning carpets day!
Have a good one!

Lauren,
We've done the flu thing already here too. It hit quickly this season. With a lot of winter in front of us, I hope we are done for the season. Once is plenty.
I'm glad you two are sharing your stories. I know nothing about being a VA and it's great to read and learn what others do.
