My daughter is breastfeeding her baby and has just returned to work. She tried to breastfeed and work away from home with her first child, but it didn't last very long. This time, things are going more smoothly. My daughter brings me frozen breast milk as well as freshly pumped milk to feed my granddaughter during the day. Oh, I should mention that she pumps her milk during her break at work. That keeps her supply up and her breasts free of engorgement.
Every mom needs a break now and again from nursing her baby due to illness, the need to attend to other children, activities or errands away from home. At that time, a bottle given by a spouse or caregiver (relative, nursery worker or babysitter) is necessary. If you're working from home (wahm), these breaks will occur more often...or will they? Do you nurse your baby while you discuss business over the phone? Do you place your baby in a sling and carry him with you while shopping for supplies or making deliveries? What is your day like as a wahm with a baby? http://people.delphiforums.com/sunshine210/children/kangaroomt.gif
LOL, Baby nursing as I type! :p
I find that our boppy pillow is indispensible for making my lap a little bigger and freeing up my arms.
I've been fortunate enough to have clients who are also working from home. Also my husband works from home so when we do need to have a professional business call we can take childcare shifts.
I have found that I shy away from phone calls as much as possible though. My kids are 15, 6, almost 4 and 3 months. A quiet call isn't something I experience often. I couldn't dream of doing telemarketing from home!
I did just land a pretty big seo job and didn't share with them that I work from home, but I'm sure that will be inevitable at some point. Once clients have worked with us for awhile the work speaks for itself and having kids around doesn't matter to them.
I've found WAHM's often are so greatful to be home, and so happy working that they do a much better job then the client expects. Not always true... but often!
Your daughter is doing all the right things to keep her milk supply up! And you're so lucky to get to have your granddaughter with you!
I'm getting ready to start pumping for Jasmine so that other people can take care of her a bit. I tend to be too selfish with my babies and we've got lots of eager hands waiting to care for her! I'm sure I'd enjoy a dinner out with hubby!

I was a single mother with my daughter when she was little. I worked full time and paid for an elderly sitter to come into my home. I did the FIFO in the freezer door. I pumped at work and was able to keep this up for some time. Being that she was cared for in my home I had no problem with using cloth in my absense too.
My second and third sons I retired the pantyhose and took a liking to my sweats and became a stay at home mom, with a 2-3 hour a night job while they slept. I was again able to nurse all my children, CD them and wear them at times. I started my business when Ian my youngest was eight months old. Yes, at times I have a child attached - not at the breast but my side, while I am making business calls.

Having a 16, 7, 5 year old and the cat -- I agree. I shy away to IRL phone calls.
