I've begun bartering my writing services for free advertising, in both print and online publications. So far, I've got several bites.

I'm always looking for women who spend a lot of time on the forum to become moderators - I'm happy to work out a free advertising arrangement on FreelanceMom in exchange.

The criteria in a moderator is that you post valuable questions and answers and genuinely care about FreelanceMom members succeeding in their home business. This means you aren't only here to promote yourself.

Of course, I have always intended for the forum to be a place where you can network and promote -- it just can't be all you do :D

I also barter my services once in a while. I do a lot of website advertising via articles, press releases, etc and sometimes if the news is compatible with my business, people will let me add a few sentences to their article/PR to include my name and website in exchange for a discounted price. I also have one regular client that I work for a reduced rate in exchange for her 20 years of virtual assisting knowledge. She has been a great mentor and friend.
