Hi there. I checked this site out about a month ago, and lo and behold I am back. I just read an inspiring story by Pe Jay and decided that I would be brave and post my own.

My life has changed dramatically in the last year. Prior to that I was a single mom of a great little boy living day by day, working part time and studying full time at Arizona State University. The change came when I met a wonderful man. He too was a single parent of an absolutely beautiful little girl. The moment we met, we just knew we would be together forever. We met online through a dating service and got to know one another. Our first true meeting involved a coffee shop, then a childrens park, then dinner, then a stroll through the local downtown. We just couldn't get enough of each other. Three months later we decided that since things were going so well we would all live together. It made a lot of sense, location, financial, emotional and family wise. We have now been a little family of four for nine months and things are absolutely wonderful. We have the full support of our family and friends and things are almost too good to be true.

My daily life is so different now. I am consumed with motherly duties. I feel like I am taking care of three kids now instead of one. My boyfriend is great though, he helps out without even being asked. Except with the laundry, but I can deal with that. We are all living in a two bedroom two bath condo. It is fairly large thank goodness. The kids are both five and in kindergarten now, full day. My job is not as stable as I would like and as such I have begun trying to make extra money via the internet.

I have joined survey sites, I have begun being paid for email and ad clicks. I have listed myself on freelance sites and even put in bids on projects. My newest project is a blog. I have even joined google adsense in the hopes of getting a small payment from my readers clicking their ads. But still I have yet to see a dime. I guess my question to all of you out there is what am I doing wrong? Can someone suggest to me a truley lucrative way of making a small amount of extra income? How are you all so successful at this?

Welcome Christie --

It sounds like you are off to a good start! Don't be discouraged, it takes awhile to find your niche and succeed.

Which Freelance Sites have you joined? They can be tough and I'm thinking of adding a forum topic specifically for bidding techniques that help you win the gig. Once you have your first project or two under your belt though - it gets a lot easier. Service providers with feedback are awarded jobs much more quickly then newbies.

Where is your blog? What are you doing to promote it? You can feel very welcome to add it to your signature when you post on this forum. The more often the url to your blog is picked up around the net - the more it will be picked up search engines and your blog will start to rank higher and show up in the search engine results.

There are a lot of good articles on optimizing and promoting your site (http://www.freelancemom.com/promotion.htm) on FreelanceMom.

Congratulations on finding your life partner! Don't give up on working from home. Feel welcome to ask any questions here and we'll help you the best we can :)

Hi Lori,

Thank you so much for your reply and your words of encouragement. The freelance site I have joined is Guru.com. And I think it would be absolutely great if you wrote an article on bidding.

Currently my blog is on blogspot.com, I am posting the url at the bottom of this post, as you suggested. To promote it, I have joined Technorati.com, Daypop, Blogdex and Popdex. Each of these sites was suggested by the moderators of blogspot.com. I have linked up to several other sites and I am currently searching other blogs that interest me, and commenting on thier sites hoping that they will visit mine.

Thanks again!

Hi Christie,

You're doing a great job on your blog. Isn't it fun?!

I use tblog for mine...

If you have an rss feed for your blog you can do a search on 'submit rss' on google and go through the results submitting your feed to different sites. That is a good way to get more exposure...

Also, submitting articles to sites that would have similar interests to your topic with a link back to your blog.

Keep us updated on your progress :)

Lori
