My husband and I are discussing having children. Holding us back is our desire for me to quit work and be a stay at home mom and the financial ramifications that would have on us. I look forward to learning from you all and hopefully making the transition to being a WAHM over the next year.

Hi Gigi,
My husband and I are discussing having children. Holding us back is our desire for me to quit work and be a stay at home mom and the financial ramifications that would have on us. I look forward to learning from you all and hopefully making the transition to being a WAHM over the next year.
It's terrific that you and your husband are looking into all of your options.
I always encourage women to consider the expenses they have with an 'out of the home' career. Oftentimes the money you can save by staying home justifies the cut and pay that is inevitable in the first few years of a business.
Don't forget to add childcare expenses to that list! And some women cut out disposable diapers and formula expenses to boot by staying home, which can be significant.
Good to have you with us!

Congratulations! You are way ahead of the game. I became a SAHM 3 years ago and a WAHM/MOB (that's mother owned business) in January of this year...after I had my second child. This is a great time to create a family first life before the family happens. I searched around on the internet for months looking for something good to do from home. I love what I decided to do and wouldn't change a thing. But, I did learn a lot about what I didn't want, too. If you have any specific questions about my search, I'd be glad to help. There really are some great opp's out there, you just have to be thorough in your search and trust your instincts...Best of Luck to you! The WAHM/WAHD life is tremendously fulfilling...

For me it kind of happened unexpectedly - I think it's great that you are so ahead of the game by planning before you even HAVE children!
I had a 2 yr old and 6 month old when I was part of the layoffs in 2001. I was earning a six figure income and was totally hit hard when I lost my job. Instead of 2 great incomes, now we had 1. I also got pregnant shortly after being laid off (yes, I wanted my children all close in age and truly believe that God will provide if we just put our faith in Him).
So, when I started looking to work from home, I had 3 children under the age of 3 and all three in diapers -- wait -- and I was nursing 2 of them! :)
I did some solid research - after all, I couldn't afford lose money, put out a lot of money, did not WANT to take orders, deliver products, do home parties or handle other people's money. It was decided before I started looking that I would not even consider a business that required any of those things.
Well, I was truly blessed when my company found ME - a mom at my local playgroup approached ME, she asked me if I wanted to work from home, I gave her 100 questions and tried to find the HOLE, but there was none.
I am currently the President and Founder of a chapter of the International MOMS Club, work 10-20 hours per week and my monthly residual income is between $1500 and $2000 each month. I help other moms do the same as I am able to do with the parti time effort I put in. In the future, I plan to work more hours towards my business, but for now, it pays for my mortgage and affords me the lifestyle that I choose - putting my children first, volunteering for things that I want, giving back to the community, etc
