As you know, quality inbound links to your website help you to rank higher in Google search results. Submitting your site to directories is a good way to give your site a little boost.

Thanks for the list. Any other hints for improve ranking? Any advice on pay-per-click like overture?

I'm just trying Overture for the first time myself. I'll let you know how effective I find it.

Great list, I knew about some of the directories but there are some new ones listed as well. You can never have too many directories to list in ;)

Hi, I just want to preface this with I am just starting out and haven't tackled any pay for clicks advertising.
However, I have read on other boards a growing concern regarding Overture and click fraud. Anyone else seen this around?
Also, that Overture is associated or partnered with Gator?
Anyone else have any more information regarding this?

This may be a different subject but I blew a lot of money not understanding how the systems worked. I did goggle pay per click and ended up paying for a lot of nothing. My parameters were not set up right. Make sure you figure out how much each sale is going to cost you.

If you're going to try overture or adwords I highly suggest getting an ebook about it or joining a group where pro's can offer you advice. It's VERY easy to lose tons of money on this, but once you get the hang of it you can make great money.

submitting to DMOZ would be good enough, but it's very hard to get in.

most of the directories listed at the top of the page are actually search engines. submitting to search engines will not build your link reputation.

a few of them on the list, like Joeant, incrawler, Jayde, and dir.Yahoo.com, are directories which provide static text links that get indexed.

as far as PPC goes, it is really imporant to work on tracking conversions prior to or in conjunction with PPC spending.
