Although self-taught photographer Andrea Stanley took photography classes in high school, she didn't fully become interested in the art until after the birth of her second child.

Three years ago, when Stanley was pregnant, she searched for a photographer who would capture her in the time that she felt most connected with her unborn - soon to be newborn - child.

With much disappointment, Stanley could not find a photographer who specialized in maternity pictures. She turned to her husband, whose hobby was photography. With their small collection of equipment, the two created beautiful photographs of their daughter, both inside and outside `the womb.

"They turned out pretty well," she said, laughing.

Stanley's passion for taking pictures of her two young children grew. She took countless snapshots and several professional quality pictures of her son and daughter.

One day, a friend observed Stanley's photographs and requested that Stanley take pictures of her own children. Word spread of Stanley's beautiful prints, and she found herself scheduling photography sessions with other friends, new mothers and expectant women throughout the Phoenix area.

With each new picture, Stanley realized that her true passion lay in creating images that portrayed the love between mother and child, and even father and child, in the most bonding period of their relationships.

"I figured out what I liked, and I learned it. That time in a mother's life is very special to me. It's a time I can identify with," she said.

With guidance from her husband, Stanley organized her own business, Andrea Stanley Photography.
