Janet Weigel works for a boss who lets her set her own hours and work from her Ahwatukee Foothills home.

Weigel works for herself, like a growing number of stay-home mothers who run their own companies.

"By the time my second child came along, I knew I did not want to have the traditional, get up at 6 a.m., drop the kids off at the day care, rush home and do homework job," said the mother of two sons.

Weigel runs a direct-sale business selling Weekenders USA clothing. She just won the Entrepreneurial Mother's Association's Mother of the Year Award for the East Valley Chapter.

Weigel was selected by an outside judge because of her business success, contributions to the organization and ability to balance business and family life.

She joined the EMA in 1998 and is vice president of its state board. The organization, which helps self-employed mothers grow professionally, has almost 160 members in four chapters.
