If you haven't seen it, there's a humorous video parody circulating the Internet that envisions what the iPod packaging design might look like if Microsoft designed it.

I just published an article on my site that looks at the Design Lessons from the iPod Packaging Parody (http://www.getthenetresults.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=21&mode=&order=0&thold=0) that can be applied to any design project - a web site, newsletter, or brochure. In short, the old adage of 'form should follow function' must apply in any design so you can ensure that you're meeting your customers' needs. I do also include the video in the article in case you haven't seen it.

I'd be curious as to what everyone thinks of the article/video and what tips everyone has as to meeting a customer's needs through graphic design!

Love that video.

ETA: Now to actually answer your question. I think usability is key. I actually just read a great book, Don't Make Me Think by Steve Krug. It pertained to web design, but the concepts are universal if you ask me. Some basic points from the book:
-Design for scanning, not reading
-Omit needless words, then omit more
-Everything should be OBVIOUS (simple navigation is my passion!!!!!!)

I think you'd find it interesting. He's a clever programming guy and he's been doing some neat experiments in Flex. He's always doing something new in software application development...that or he has another girlfriend. :)

Ben has a very cool blog - I subscribed to his feed and will be sure to be a frequent visitor. I didn't have a chance to check out the link he had to multi-touch displays, but I have seen a demo of that technology and it is truly going to be the future. Apple has a few patents in that area and I'm hoping it shows up in time for my next Mac purchase!!
