Just thought I would take a minute to introduce myself. I am Rhonda Bartlett, owner of RB Design Studio, LLC, in Kentucky. I have been designing websites and their graphics since 1996 and officially opened the doors to my company in 2001.
Before that, when my children were born and growing up (they are now 22 and 25) I worked as the secretary for a mechanical and electrical engineering company for almost 25 years. That background paved the way for my new career in website design when my church's website was dropped in my lap in 1996. I had absolutely no website design experience at that time and everything I have learned, I have learned through the "school of hard knocks", and am completely self-taught. The ways I do things might not be the way things are taught in school, but after many, many hours of learning, and trying, and doing, and re-doing, I am happy to say that RB Design Studio, LLC is a success!
You can learn more about me at www.rbdesignstudio.com and if I can help anyone, I will be more than happy to do so as I have time.
I play saxophone in my church's praise & worship team and absolutely love doing that! I play all four at one time or another (soprano, alto, tenor and baritone), although I absolutely do not claim to be a professional on the sax. Just love praisin' the Lord!
I have been married to George for 28 years and we now have 3 beautiful grandchildren who are 8, 5 and 2. They are absolute Joys in our lives!
Best wishes to everyone here, and if I can help, just give me a shout! :)

Hello! I am excited to see another new member of the forum. Sounds like you have your office to yourself, at this point. I don't think I could tolerate the silence.
:D
Cheers & welcome to FreelanceMom.com

Hi everyone! I found this forum thru webproworld forums and Lori. (which by the way, Lori, you have done a super job on this!)
I have been in the web design business for 6 years, and before that I was involved in the printing/marketing industry. I absolutely love what I do... to the point of geekiness  and count my blessings everyday for being lucky enough to find my calling.
I look forward to future posts!
Shelly
Welcome Shelly!
I'm so glad that you took the time to come over :D
Shelly is obviously a pretty modest addition to our forums everyone, I notice she didn't add her homepage to a signature.
Check out her absolutely beautiful work at: http://www.dzineworkz.com It is very inspiring!
Warm Regards,
Lori

Thank you so much Lori, but I think you give me way too much credit! I have been spreading the word about the forum... so hopefully your member list will grow... but ya know, I kindof like it being a small group of moms/designers/etc.. with common interests.
Shelly
Hi Shelly -
I really like this beginning stage too. It's sweet to watch a community take shape, and easier I think - to get to know eachother when it is so small.
I truly hope that freelancemom will become a valuable resource and source of sharing for MANY women, so I appreciate you spreading the word though :-)
Talk to you soon!

Hello. I always knew the internet was here but only recently realized how great it is. I have a great business idea (3 in fact) but no money to put into them. I'm forced to work from home due to illness. So the whole freelance thing came up when all the searches I did for "home based" or "work at home" jobs turned up "jobs" that you had to pay to join. So I'm looking for freelance work to get a domain name, web site etc.

Hi Sheila! Glad to have you here! We are all here to help each other.
What are your passions? What do you LOVE to do? That's where I would start. Think of things you love to do and try and figure out a way to make them pay.
If we can help you, please let us know!
Rhonda :)
Hi Sheila -
Welcome! Thanks for taking the time to write and join us.
You know, you would be amazed at how cheaply you can get some business started. Particulary if they are online businesses'. If there are any particulars you want to discuss -- please feel welcome. We have women here with a lot of talent and business saavy.
Try browsing through www.freelancemom.com/getasite.htm if you haven't already in regards to getting your own site up. I think it might be helpful to you.
It IS amazing how many work at home scams abound. I was very discouraged when I began looking for freelance work. It was actually the muse for developing this site.
Please keep us informed - and don't be shy to jump in on some conversations around here :) You are very welcome!

Thanks for the warm welcome. I needed it. Believe it or not we (my husand and I) are not even in a position to buy a domain name yet. That's why I'm looking for freelance or home based work in Data Entry, Telephone Work really anything but sales. I don't have to worry about getting scammed because I have nothing to steal! Hey, finally a bright side of being this broke, already a benefit of joining you ladies.
That's looking on the bright side! :D
I've been there Sheila. I know exactly where you are coming from.
Did I hear that you would do telephone work??? I HATE telephone work. If I get any that I'm able to pass on - you're my gal
It's always a nightmare for me to try to keep the kids calm during those phone calls...
Thanks for participating Sheila,
Lori

I'm Antonia. I'm a WAHM from London, England and have just found your site. It looks great. I'm a freelance health journalist and run my own PR agency too - combined with looking after dd, who's 20 months.
I look forward to seeing how the site develops

Hello Antonia :)
Thanks for joining us. 20 months is a precious age! I'm Mom of three - 12, 3 and 1. All boys.
Your signature mentions affordable PR for WAHM's. That's terrific! Can you tell us a little bit more about it? Also, do you have a website? If so - please feel welcome to add it to your signature.
Warm Regards,

Thanks Lori. My website is WWW.acpr.co.uk/pr - I'll add it to my sig.
I have a number of things to offer WAHMs - I can write a press release for you to send out yourself, or write it, and send it, and even deal with press queries for you if you'd rather be concentrating on your wn business. I also do packs specially designed for each WAHM business, with a draft press release plus individual ideas and advice about how to get coverage for your business with mimimum expenditure.
Best Wishes
Antonia

Welcome! I think you'll like it here. I, too, belong to too many of everything :D and I actually had to create a detailed spreadsheet to keep track of it all. Ah, organization!

Hi Everyone!
I am Celina and just happened upon this website today. Great to be here. I am very new to finding websites such as this one. I am a single mom, have two jobs and looking for other ways to make money. I use to be in Property Management but injured myself. I am unable to work full-time in an office environment. Needless to say my income has drastically reduced. I am hoping to meet other Moms that may be able to help me, advise me etc. I am really looking forward to your suggestions, advise or direction. I think that working from home and having a flexible schedule is really perfect for me and am looking forward to it!
Thank you!

Welcome Celina! I'm really glad that you joined us.
I certainly hope (and believe) that you can find support and good advice here. Certainly inspiration.
I'm really sorry to hear about your injury. How are you possibly working two jobs?! What are you doing for work currently?
Let us know of any questions you have. I'm looking forward to getting to know you :)

Welcome Celina,
It is possible to work completely from home and make a very decent living, as well. I have been doing it for the last 3 years, while my husband was finishing his education. We have 3 children and while I can't say it's always been easy, it's definately worth it. I make more working from home that I would make in a traditional job, when I factor in expenses such as wardrobe, travel, meals, day care, etc.
If you ever need anything, do not hesitate to ask. Either on the forum, or feel free to send me a message.
Welcome to your new home away from home,
Debbi

Hi all
Thought perhaps I should introduce myself here too - I've posted on a few of the other topics but managed to miss this one!
Antonia (from acpr above) recommended I came and had a look at the site - it looks great from what I've seen.
Anyways, about me:
I'm Sadie and I run Glassravenweb design. I do all kinds of websites from a basic HTML only sites to database driven and ecommerce sites, all bespoke designed (not template sites). I also offer a very affordable logo design service.
I have worked a lot with startup companies and home based businesses (mostly wahms) and offer a number of reduced packages and design services specifically for wahms. For example a 5 page HTML website for £50, logo design for £25 with additional banners for link swaps etc for just £5. Just let me know that you saw me on here :)
I am mum to Callista (who is going to be 4 in feb) and Aiden (who was 2 last month) and am based in Coventry (West Midlands), UK.
Look forward to chatting to you all!
:) Sadie
