Today I discovered that none-other that Apple Computer has linked to an article on my site, Get The NET Results (http://www.getthenetresults.com). In the lower right corner of the Apple Small Business (http://www.apple.com/business/) page, they added a link to my article under the "News and Upcoming Events" section!

I hope they keep it there a while!!

That's wonderful! That is the ultimate compliment for you! They really are doing themselves a service, since you really plug the company on your site and forums!

Thanks everyone!!

As of this morning, the link is still there. My overall site has seen a big increase in traffic and I'm hoping the link hangs in there until the next Google update!

Thanks Debbi!

My overall site has had a huge increase in traffic - my web host even just profiled my site in their monthly e-mail newsletter because traffic spiked so much. Building the discussion forums remains a bit of a challenge, but everything else has been going quite well. I checked this morning and Apple still has me on their business page!

Thanks, Tara! I checked again this morning and they still are displaying the link. Got me fingers crossed that they'll keep it there a while longer. :)

Justin,
Do you know where they got it from to use? Do you submit to article directories? Or did you actually send it to them?

Justin,
Do you know where they got it from to use? Do you submit to article directories? Or did you actually send it to them?

I originally e-mailed two highly-trafficed Mac-oriented sites about the article after I had posted it on my site. They linked to it and one of them even wrote a very complimentary synopsis of my article. Pretty quickly, a bunch of other Mac sites found out about and linked to the article. Almost immediately my traffic spiked.

Several weeks later, I started to see traffic in my web stats coming from Apple itself. Somewhere along the way an Apple employee must have gotten wind of the article and thought it was a good idea to post a link to it from the Apple Small Business page. My traffic spiked even more!

Interestingly, I was watching my Alexa ranking during this time (which I was dissappointed with to start), and noticed little movement. After reading their FAQs, I saw that they only track usage from users of the Windows version of IE. So, the huge numbers of Mac users I am getting has absolutely no affect on Alexa! So, I've since pretty much discounted Alexa as an accurate tool and just look at it for 'fun' -- the same way I would a horoscope ;)

Thats great Justin!!!

You know I never rely much on Alexa. They do not update enough and like you said do not count everything....

The other thing about Alexa is that they seem to massively weigh your own visits to your website in their results. I've seen sites that I'm building that I KNOW nobody is going to yet have the Alexa shift quite a bit simply from my own visits.

It is fun though... and the best tool I've seen out there attempting to measure website popularity. But just not fool proof :)

Of course, being a Mac guy, I'm not using the Alexa toolbar and not gaining the benefit of boosting the results for my site! ;)

I agree that it is the best tool for what it tries to do - much like a horoscope is the best tool for predicting your day. (Yes, I'm stuck on that analogy.)

What I'd like to see is a major ISP like AOL, Verizon DSL, or one of the cable companies aggregate up the surfing habits of their users to produce the same type of site ranking. This would better represent the surfing habits of all Internet users (not just the subset of Windows PCs using IE who happen to have a certain toolbar) and would reduce the chance of sites being artificially skewed.

Now there's something that I'd LOVE to see!
