Hi. I'm reading this thread a bit late, but in case you're still looking for information, I use oDesk regularly. In fact, it's where I get almost all of my freelance work (http://www.odesk.com). I've been using their network for a little over a year.

The readiness test wasn't too difficult, and it's pretty much "open book", in that you can refer to the materials to help answer the questions. Once that test is under your belt, you can take any number of other tests to help build your profile and make you more martetable. I'd also suggest building a nice portfolio as well to help you stand out from the competition.

It can take a little while to land your first job, but the best advice I can give is never give up! Once you get a few hours and projects under your belt, it sort of snowballs and the jobs start coming in.

Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions and I'll try to answer them as best I can.

Hope this helps! Best of luck to you! ;)
