My Mostly Grown Children are still at home (ages 25 &19)due to the economy and they act like they can't go to bathroom without help....I mean..I know I raised them better than they are acting right now and I feel like they have no respect for my home or the rules.
I want to shove them out of the nest.....real hard...agh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cheryl,
Have you spoken to them? All adults living in one house is really tough, especially younger adults who are still discovering who they are.
I think the hardest stage in raising kids is when they are old enough to no longer be accountable but are not yet independent. Actually, that tension point is good. If you make them too comfortable, they will never become independent. Gasp!
I think it's the mother eagle that stirs up the nest--tearing out all the fur and soft cushioning to encourage the baby eagles to leave the nest and test their wings. Maybe you could do this by requiring reasonable rent--a baby step to real independence. And when they are gripping, just consider it a prelude to flapping their wings, and say, "Fly, Baby, fly!"

having a 19 year old -- I feel some of that pain Cheryl.
I have a little bit of a spin on things as she also has two younger sibs 7 & 9 that pick up on the examples. Being the only parent (I am a widow) I need to stand firm ground some days on the 19 year old who likes to think she has a place in ruling the roost. Sighhh.
Hang in there -- and open the door wide, maybe they will leap!

I can understand how you feel, only I am on the other side of it. I have recently moved back home. I am 35 years old & living with my grandmother who raised me, she is like a mother too me.
I moved back home due to my recent break up & they economy. It is hard because she tries to control my life. I understand that it is her house & her rules and I try to respect that yet at the same time she, is constantly up my butt about stupid stuff.
I suggest that you try sitting down w/ them and explain to them that even thoguh they are young adults and that you will respect their independence as long as thay respect yours. Good Luck.

I feel so fortunate. We had to move in with my mom for a few years about 20 years ago. She was wonderful. We all got along fabulously.

Thank you Lori. It has actually been the best thing that could have happened to me. I meet a guy who treats me so much better, we have been dating for 8 months & I am so much happier.
I am also working on starting my own business, the one that I wanted to do before but my ex wouldn't allow it because he didn't believe in it.
I couldn't be happier!! :t10:

Well alright then! Good for you! It's amazing the doorways that open when we trust ourselves and follow our heart.
Sorry, I might have missed it - what type of business are you in?
