Work from home can be soooo frustrating!

First thing is that there are so many things out there that you don't know what is real and what isn't.

Plus, with so many other responsibilities, it's hard to have the time to really research.

I would like to find something that is legitimate to help me supplement my income but it seems to be a needle in a haystack!

Help! :dunno:

What are you looking for? Are you looking for a job or home business, affiliate program etc.? There are some obvious tell-tale signs that are scams. Anything that promises you a large income in the shortest amount of time is a scam. For jobs, never pay for registration or training materials fees. Jobs require skills and experience, interview and a resume.

Regardless if you don't have a lot of time, research is extremely important. Work at home forums are a good place to ask these questions, checking with the Better Business Bureau and FTC are other places to check up on companies.

So what would you like to do to supplement your income? Give us some idea so we can guide you in the right direction.

:)

I'd like to throw a few things out for you to consider:

1. Do you have 3 hours per day to "research?" That is only 15 hours per week. If your answer is no, that's ok, but then I wonder how you'll have time to work once you do find something?

2. What specifically are you wanting to do? Do you want to answer phones for a call center? Do you want to write blog posts for pay? Do you want direct sales? Do you want to sell on ebay? Do you want to run a service based business such as organizing, billing, transcription, bookkeeping, pet sitting, etc?

I think the answers to these two questions will help lead you down a path to a way to make money for yourself :)

Patience and perseverance is very important. It's really hard and frustrating at first but soon you will see that all your hard work will pay off.

I know the feeling! It took me 3 years, and I finally found stuff I can actually make money in, but after all the hard work, going through scam, after scam, and paying money, (I learned the HARD way) I now have my hubby all over me about businesses. I know from experience they are out there, but like the other ladies here said, it does take time, and perserverence, I was so determined, and it took me 3 years to find the ones I am doing! Good luck with your search though, they are out there!! :sun:

I hope that u were able to find something. It seems to me that if you have time constraints then you have to take that into consideration too. How much time can you truly dedicate to finding a second income?

It has taken a while for me to read through all the wonderful threads on this board, but this one really struck a chord with me.

I've been ready to scream every morning when I open my e-mail and find scads of ads for 'easy work', 'earn money while you sleep', 'work in your jammies' etc, etc....

First of all, I'm not looking for 'easy work'. I want 'REAL work'!! :protest:
Second, I don't for a second believe that I can earn money while I sleep, and even if I could, where would be the satisfaction that comes with doing a hard day's work for a fair day's pay?

And work in my jammies??? With all the nice clothes I have?

Sigh.....I understand the urge to scream. I need real work, not a lot of hype!

I know exactly what you mean. I can't count the number of times I've been scammed and the amount of money I've lost. It took me 2 1/2 years before I figure out I could build informational websites about things i was interested in and make money doing it. I don't know if it's something you would be interested in but I like it. Good luck to you.

I think I said it here before, but when I was looking for something part time to give me basically gas money, I checked out everyone's signatures on the boards that I visited.

That gave me some ideas as to what I wanted to persue.

I agree, it's tough. One thing to keep in mind is that those trying to sell you a job is actually just selling. They want to make the money and don't care if you do.

The best advice I can give is to not even bother looking online for opportunities. The real good ones are all taken and the rest just want to make themselves a buck (which is probably all they do make).

I'd suggest you get away from the computer and spend some time in the library reading as much as you can. That's how I decided on logo design after seeing an article on business image in a magazine. If you look through all the ads, articles and books on business you'll start to get a more realistic overall picture of what is out there.

I know it's easy to say, 'spend time reading' when time is limited, but it may only take you a few months of flipping through material. Much better than years online with trial and error and scams. At least the library is free.

The best business ideas haven't even been thought of.

Good luck,
Kira

Hi Nova,

I can relate to what you're going through. The best advice I can give from my own personal experience, is while you haven't nailed down your opportunity yet, make use of your time learning the ropes. Devour anything you can about internet marketing. Join many forums and start letting folks get to know you so when you do find the right opportunity for you, you'll have the support and resources you need already in place. One of the very best things you can do for any potential online business. is to develop some kind of presence online. Even if that presence isn't so defined initially, you can always build on that when your vision is in sharper focus. These are things you can focus on doing right now. Let the bigger picture take care of itself. These forums are absolutely wonderful ways to find honest answers to your opportunity search.

If I were you I'd try to make of a list of the things that the things you'll need to know whatever you decide to pursue. Tackle one or two things on that list everyday. For example (depending on your present knowledge, of course), today it could be focusing on developing a myspace and reading some of an online book that illustrates easy ways to market. Don't let your attention draw you away from completing those two tasks. If you start your day with that list, everyday, it will be easier for you to stay on course. Each day you'll be that much closer to owning a successful online business.

Best of luck to you!

Do you try to give them undivided attention at different points in the day?

Yep, meal times we all sit together and usually at least an hour of playtime outside with the dog. Then there's always the bed time routine. I guess its just kids, always doing something. He was chasing the cat during my earlier post...

It is really frustrating to figure out if a job offer is a scam or not. Just remember, that if it sounds too good to be true, then it IS just that. Nothing comes easily. In order to make money you have to work, the same as you have to do in the 'outside' world.

Hey its based on what u r looking for. I had a good work at home job doing order taking and light data entry work. I am not with them anymore because I am doing something else. They are a good company to work for. Hope this helps.;)

I feel your frustration with this! I remember exactly what you are going through and you are so right on all the scams that are out there. I have been working at home for the past 5 years and have struggled in the past finding a position that would allow me a full time income working at home.

After a lot of research and hours and hours doing nothing but going through the computer determined to find the right job I came across this awesome ebook that I use to find my work now. Some of the things I like about it is all the leads they offer, the support and the guarantee.

We also have a new forum board and a chat room that gives you even more help during the way.

Thanks!

I love this thread - so many people are so willing to try to help!

My thoughts on home business are to meditate on what truly brings you pleasure in life. If you're going to start a home business, I think you should design it to be your dream job!

A lot of people have the misconception that to be in business means that you need to sell a business opportunity... It's not true. There are home businesses doing all sorts of things.

I've known women that are bookkeepers, knitting instructors, child care providers, website designers, administrative assistants, biscotti bakers, writers, merchants, editors, sandwich makers for local businesses, assistants to real estate agents, dog sitters, data entry clerks, telemarketers, graphic designers, ebayers, baby hair clip makers :) All from home.

Whatever brings you pleasure - try to think of how it might bring you money.

And then GO FOR IT!

You are so right! I had looked and searched forever for something and kept coming across these crazy "get rich quick" schemes and even fell for a few. I have never been a person who believed in that but when you are desperate you seem to buy into things alot easier. After a few failures on some of the home based businesses I began to take a hard look and when I had found the Jobs Based From Home and the support that helped me find what exact skills I had and how to present my skills I soon landed a job that I love. I was just going about the whole thing the wrong way to begin with. Please let us know what you find cause I am rooting for you!! I love to see others get the opportunity I have been so blessed with!:flower:

Ponderings about Get Rich Quick Schemes...

Dead giveaways that the "get-rich-quick" scheme you're thinking of sending away for is a total waste of your money...

If the advertisement starts out with a sob story about how broke the writer used to be... and then proceeds to tell you how many luxury cars he has NOW...

If the advertisement goes on and on for multiple pages but NEVER QUITE TELLS YOU WHAT IT'S SELLING...

If every paragraph contains a "tease" that makes you want to read the next paragraph, without ever fulfilling the promises in the previous paragraph...

If the advertisement says "anybody can do it" and/or "you don't have to lift a finger..."

If the advertisement offers "work at home" assignments such as "stuffing envelopes for pay", "reading books for pay", "assembling products for pay"...

If the advertisement tells you all the things the get-rich-quick scheme ISN'T...

If the writer says "I was skeptical about this at first myself..."

If the writer says that he doesn't mind sharing this incredible secret with you because there's more than enough money for EVERYBODY...

If you see the words "send (anything at all) to the first (so-many) people on the following list..."

If you see the words "This is not a pyramid scheme" or "This is not an illegal chain letter"...

KEEP YOUR MONEY! YOU'LL NEVER SEE SO MUCH AS A PENNY BACK!!!

You all have to know that some people really do get rich on the internet with in a weeks time I have seen it done! You have to know what you are doing and most of all put the time in! You gotta understand you get back what you put in the number one reason people don't succeeded is because they give up after they don't make a million dollars over night it doesn't work like that! There are plenty of good money making opportunities out here and there are plenty of scams as well. You gotta know what you are doing you can not go fishing on the internet and not know what you are doing you will get eaten alive! I' m here to help any question feel free to email me check my signature.
