Hi everyone! My name is Dawn and I'm new to the group and also to owning my own business. Currently I am working as a "secretarial service" but I would love to branch out as a personal assistant too.

Does anyone do this now? What types of services do you offer? I thought about gift buying (Xmas season), errand service, travel services, etc.

Thanks for any info! :D

Hi Dawn!

Thanks for joining the forum :D Welcome!

That is neat that you are running a secretarial service. Are you doing it locally? How do you go about finding your clients?

A personal assistant service is an excellent idea. Your idea of gift buying is one I hadn't thought of!

Moving services is another thought.

One of my clients actually runs a personal assistant business. Here is her link to that service: http://www.wedoiterrandservice.com/moving.htm

Robin's whole site is really informative, I'm sure you can get a lot of ideas from her. In fact, I'll drop her a note and invite her to come give her two cents if she has the time.

I hope we hear a lot more from you Dawn.

Warm Regards,

Lori

I have a friend who approached a large store in our area last Christmas and asked if she could offer gift wrapping in their store. They gave her some space out back, advertised her service at every register, charged her nothing, (they considered having her there was a fringe benefit for their customers). She supplied all the materials and made some good money.

This year she put an ad in the paper saying if you dropped your shopping off at her house you could pick it up wrapped the next day. Her clients have to tape a sticky note on each package saying who she should address the card to and who it's from. I'm not sure what knid of response she's had with this idea.....but, there's lots of brains working every minute out there.

I'm happy to have you join our forum.

You know -- this is such a GOOD idea! And it's seasonal which can really work out nicely in some Mom's schedules.

Maybe you can put in a plug for her to come join us in the forums and let us know how it goes ;)

Hi my name is Jibbe & I am new to the group. I am so glad I found this site, I have been getting very frustrated and ripped off with work at home opportunities! I had thought about the gift buying service myself about a year ago and never did anything with it because I didn't know how to get started. I assumed the best way was to put ads in the local papers or possibly making up some flyers to mail to businesses where there were business executives. I guess I panicked because I just didn't know how to get started. I currently have a full time job but am trying very hard to work at home either starting my own gift/errand business or becoming a VA for someone. Any help would be appreciated. I just don't know how to charge for either of the services. I wish I had every dime back I have spent for work at home guides etc. Thanks, Jibbe

Hi Jibbe --

I'm so sorry I missed your post before! Thanks for joining us :D

Sorry to hear that you ran into the scams that are out there. Don't feel bad - you're definitely not alone.

Have you made any steps to starting your own business?

Lori

Hi all
My name is Tina, and i am wanting to start some type of home business, i have tried my hand in concessions i went out and invested big money into converting a trailer into a concessions stand but this is not working at all, i need something everytime i talk to other people about this they give me it is not going to work i live in a small town i had just moved here they do not have a lot of businessess her so there are many types of oppertunities. I have thought of doing newsletters for other businesses i did one for a local union years ago but it seems now that many are doing this theirselves but i feel even if everyone in the world has all the equipment that they may not have the time to do it any ideas on this. i took several classes on cake decorating but everyone keeps saying that u will get into serious trouble if u do this cause of health laws but i see people with signs in their yard and u can just tell they don't have a seperate kitchen. i also thought of doing a word processing service, a errand service, computerized bookkeeping, and here the kids have to walk to school if they are not diasable or whatever but i thought of a kid taxi service if anyone can put me onto the right track i would truly appreciate it i have just had so many doors closed in my face i am losing my insight but i really feel having my own service type business is my calling i also live in a big house and have 4 extra bedrooms just sitting there with nothing in them going to waste and a extra bath i need some type of ideas i have looked on the net and keep getting things u need thousands to start email me at a785girl@yahoo.com

You cannot get much more service oriented than that and it sounds like you have the space. I am sure other will come up with some ideas.

I live in a rather small town. The school sports are big here. Could you take your consession stand to those?
