With gas prices so high, how often do you fill your tank? Mine needs to be filled about every 10 days. I drive an Accord and it's close to $50 to fill the tank.

Same for me Audrey...10 days/a week and a half. Sometimes more often if I take several trips to see my Dad. I drive a 2005 cobalt and it costs about $40 to fill mine up. :(

I drive an old Volvo (191,000 miles). I usually fill it every 10 days - not because its good on gas but because I just don't drive very much. It costs about $45 to fill it. I was stunned that gas went up to $3.59 a gallon. However, we have it better than in Europe!! In the Netherlands they pay around $6.50 a gallon. This link gives a list of gas prices over seas. http://money.cnn.com/pf/features/lists/global_gasprices/
Of course the oil producing companies pay the least with Venezuela at $0.12.

Interesting link MaryAnn!
I drive a jeep commander. I justify it with 4 kids and needing a 4 wheel drive in rural vermont. It gets about 18 miles to the gallon and costs $50 to fill it - the tank is tiny.
I'd like to get a smaller more efficient car for times when we don't all go out together. Too bad that stimulus check won't be bigger :)

I usually fill up every 2 weeks when hubby gets paid and I get groceries. Sometimes it is more often if I actually go somewhere outside of town. It usually costs $40-45

I know...thank God for it though, cause I put us in a higher tax bracket for last year due to my income. We are used to getting quite a bit back. :(
But the stimulus check makes up for it. Not complaining. ;)

OK I am very jealous here! I have a Ford Expedition that gets horrid gas millage, 9 miles to the gallon.
It cost me $90 to fill up my tank at $3.55 a gallon here and I have to fill up at least 2 times a week.
I keep telling my kids they need to start riding them bikes more often! LOL

Oh my goodness, 9 miles to a gallon?? That surely stinks!
Gas in my area is $3.80 a gallon. My F/T job is 20 miles away. I spend about $60 a week in gas when I don't have to take the kids to a babysitter. My significant other has a conversion van and it costs us over $100 to fill his tank which is at the very least once a week! We are currently looking for a new car because the money we will save in gas will be the cost of our car payment!
I have already figured in the savings in gas when I get to work from home F/T. Between gas and childcare, it reduces my income goal by $1100 a month!

OOOF!

That's a great point Dawn makes -- working from home, especially during this dare I say it, recession, really does save a ton of money.

Hello ladies,
I'm opening this thread back up.
We saw gas out here in the Chicagoland area get up to just under $4.50 a gallon. Consequently, the price of EVERYTHING went up, groceries, toiletries, diapers took a big hit ($5-$10 more expensive depending on the size & brand), and any type of delivery services. I'm sure we've all seen the expense of everyday living increase during that crazy rise in fuel costs.
Currently we are down to $2.45 a gallon. That is 2 dollars less! Gas prices have been decreasing for months. So why aren't the costs of the other things going down? Where is all that extra money going? In their pockets as profit? I know I see a difference in my wallet now that it only takes $40 to fill my tank. How much extra are these large corps making? Yet there are all these lay offs and companies going under because of a crushing economy. I don't get it???? :eh:

We were out and about last night and on one side of the street I saw $1.09/litre and on the other side of the street $0.99/litre.

I'm with ya...I don't get it either! :( I keep waiting for groceries to go down. LOL! I don't think it's happening anytime soon.
Gas here now is still going down and it's $2.09 a gallon. It was as high as $4.19.

Tammy,
That's so cool that it's come down so much. I forgot to look at prices this morning when I was out.

I think the food prices are still high because the fuel surcharge tax was added so late. Now they are offsetting to make up for the price decrease. I believe gas prices will go back up and that is what they are waiting for so they don't have to lower the food price.

I filled my tank with $32.00 the other day. I was literally jumping up and down!

That's what my honey said too. I hope not! :(
I hope we can maintain the low prices too... We filled up the minivan (traded in our commander since the beginning of this thread) for $40 the other day and were grateful. It's amazing to think it was double that. How did we all do it?
Filling our oil tank the last time cost over $900 -- triple what it cost when we moved in a few years ago... I'm amazed we've been able to absorb all of these huge increases in the simple cost of living.

Not sure about everywhere else but around here...in Mass... gas prices are finally starting to go down. It's down to $2 something here.
Luckily for me I don't drive & rely on public transportation to get everywhere. Saves a ton of money.

I paid $2.29 yesterday. I got the gas at Von's and received 10 cents per gallon off, so it was originally $2.39. It cost about $28 to fill the tank. I was pretty darn excited.

Canada gas prices are always higher which is why people will cross the border to get gas. lol
Our litre is a bit more than your gallon.
