Is anyone planting a garden this year?

We do a joint garden every year with my aunt and uncle since they have a big property....I am looking forward to planting later this month :)

If we can catch a break in the rain, we'll plant some tomatoes and a few other goodies...that seems to be a big IF this year though. : ) We sure have had a lot of rain here in southcentral Missouri

What are you planting this year?

We are planting:

Zucchini, Eggplant, Squash, Tomatoes, Onions, Cabbage, Green peppers, Hot peppers and a few other things...every year we make the garden a little bit bigger and experiment with growing something new :)

I did not get anything planted this year. It is to late now to start because everything will just burn very soon.
I do have cactus that are starting to fruit so, we will have Jelly!

I spent yesterday afternoon moving my bird feeders, bird houses and bird baths around and then we ordered a new solar powered bird bath combo water fountain...so I can't wait for that to arrive and I am going to plant flowers around it.

Shelly,
By solar powered do you mean that solar energy will run a pump? Sorry, I am a bit lost. But, if it does run the pump to avoid stagnant water that would be so cool.
I did remove all the rocks from around my little cactus bed so I can lay down tarp to keep the weeds out. But, after I got the rocks moved the wind picked up & laying down tarp did not work so well. The neighbors were waiting for the wind & the tarp to pick me up like a kite. That would have been something to write about! I now have a naked cactus bed. Going to be breezy again today so, it will just have to wait. BUT, I did get some sun on my arms & legs - wow, it feels great to have the sun rejuvenate me.

Hi Sheryl

Yes...its solar powered by the sun! That is what drew me to it! I don't want stagnant water as that breeds misquitos and stuff. I thought it would be priced more but it was $99.00 and should arrive in a week or so.

We had a struggle last evening with our patio table umbrella. My hubby had it closed up for the past 6 weeks and some dang bee's decided to make a few nests in it...ugh! I ran into the house as I am allergic to them so my hubby had to kill them with his industrial strength bee killer....kills them on contact, even in the hive.

I plan on growing major amounts of tomatoes and basil :)

I was thinking about trying to grow some herbs in some patio window boxes, are they hard to grow like that?

I've been planting stuff every year since being married and it can be alot of fun. We too, have experiemented with different plants and had some really great success with some and some duds with others. This year we're doing basil, cilantro (my personal favorite), tomatoes, spaghetti squash (our experimental one), and a couple others that I can't remember. This year I planted some flower bulbs for the first time, so I am very interested to see if they start growing up. I haven't had any success with planting flower seeds yet, so I'm hoping these bulbs will work.

Where did you order this from? It sounds very interesting and something I would be interested in.

We are in Northern California, so have ridiculously small backyards, but we make the most out of what we have. We plant a couple of tomato plants each year, beans (this year we are going to build a large tepee for the kids and let the beans grow up the sides), peas, some type of squash (usually an eight ball to conserve space), cucumbers (which we also do up a trellis) and then we also try something new each year -- done tomatillo, fava beans, soy beans -- all with varying levels of success. We have a fantastic nursery near us that has the best selection of tomatoes -- lots of heirloom -- and I love the Renee's Garden seeds also.
