Oh goodness....where do I begin? Warning..pour a cup of coffee.
My daughter was to attend a teen weekend this weekend in New York.
We left the house at 8:30 p.m. We got there and checked in. Our local airport is small. She went into the boarding room about 9:30 p.m. Flight was to leave at 9:52 p.m.
As I've always done, I stood outside the boarding room and we talked on the cell phone. She can see me through the window. (remember, small airport)
I started getting really cold and asked her how she'd feel about me going home and we'd still talk on the phone. She said fine. At 9:55, they announced the plane was a bit late and it would be 5-10 minutes. She and I are still on the phone. She had a connecting flight in Las Vegas that was to leave at 11:45 p.m. It's a one hour 5 minute flight to Las Vegas.
At 10:10 she and I are both getting just a tad worried. At 10:20 they announced it will be quite a long wait as the plane was not yet in Burbank and once there it needed to refuel. At this point, she's never had this happen, she realizes everyone is in line and she gets in the back of the line. I'm still at home....I still wouldn't of been allowed in the room she was in. We are still on the phone.
I grab the home phone and call the airlines myself trying to get her to New York any way we can. The first gal I spoke to disconnected me after 30 minutes. The 2nd gal couldn't even speak english. It's now about 11:30 p.m. She finds a man who says he'll help her (an employee). She must get to Los Angeles NOW. It's a 90 minute drive with no traffic.
My other daughter says "mom I know you're tired, I'm always up this late and leaves my house at midnight to pick up her sister who is now trying to get her luggage back. I'm not going to bed. I need to know my girls are ok, driving down there. I'm on the phone with them until 2 am. or so.
Finally at 3:30 a.m. (it's now 5:30 a.m. in New York) my daughter is able to connect with those who were supposed to pick her up. They've just woken up to come get her.
They tell me that the weather is not nice by J.F.K. and they are petrified on the timing. Her new plane was now due in at 2:30 p.m. This retreat is up in the Catskill mountains. They call me and together we all decide this is not going to work.
It's now 4 a.m. and my younger daughter is at LAX and my older daughter is at my moms. We had called my mom about 11pm and told her what was happening and told her she might have overnight guests. She left a porch light on and went to bed LOL
My older daughter has been up all night also and said she just didn't feel safe to drive back to the airport. So...we get my younger daughter a cab to my moms. The idiot drove in circles as he didn't know where he was really going. I'm on the phone dirceting them to my moms house.
At 5 a.m. my two daughters are both at my moms and I'm finally able to go to sleep for 2 hours. I had a committment this morning that I could not change at all.
I went and fulfilled my committement then drove to my moms. I am now at my moms with a very devastated daughter who has been crying and sleeping all day.
I am strong strong believer in fate....and I believe with all my heart my daughter was not meant to be there this weekend. She of course does not see it that way. I am beyond thankful that both my girls are ok.
So...is the coffee gone yet? I could sure use a cup.
