Hi all,
If you are a parent and have just a few minutes to fill out my survey, I would appreciate it. I am currently writing a video ebook that focuses on the advantages and benefits of teaching your hearing children sign language.
If you would answer a quick 2 minute survey, I would so appreciate it. My goal is to get 10 more responses.

I took the survey. Great idea for the ebook! I'm fluent in sign language and pregnant, so I was happy to read your post. I'm definitely planning on using sign language with my baby :-)
I took the survey also.
With my first 3 children I wan't aware of baby signing - but with my latest we gave it a try.
She really benefitted from it! It's amazing how much they have to say, and CAN say with sign language before they can speak.

Lisa,
Great e-book idea. I took your survey. My daughter is almost three and my son just turned one. I am teaching them both sign language. With my daughter, it was very useful until about 1 1/2, when I started slacking because I could now understand 90% of what she said verbally. However, my son only says a couple words, but I have taught him probably 30 signs that he uses daily. I am constantly learning more so I can teach him more. I think it eases infant frustration, because they want to communicate, but their mouths cannot form all the necessary sounds.
Is there an official sign for pretzel? They are my son's favorite snack, and right now he just points and signs to eat.
Thanks,
Lynsey

I did a quick search online to see if I could send you a video of how to sign pretzel, but couldn't find one. There's gotta be a sign for it, but I just don't know it. Maybe Embracing Life would be able to help you out with that one.

Nope, no official sign. We always use our first finger and thumb (like holding a pretzel stick) and move it to our mouth, like "eat" two times with a much longer pull and not touching in so far. Does that make sense?
Lemme know, if not I'll send you a video clip. LOL

I think I understand, but a video clip would be nice if you don't mind. Thanks.

I took the survey and am excited about the outcome of the video ebook!
I didn't know about teaching your baby to sign when my first two were babies, but in looking back I realize that they would have learned it quickly and it would have helped communication although they both communicated verbally at just a few months of age and were easy to understand.
We are teaching (or trying to teach) our son to sign but the only thing he really signs is MILK. A few months ago he would smack his open palm, fingers extended, on the side of his chin for MOMMA but now he just yells it.
Our entire family is learning ASL and I think it is fabulous. Some deaf and hearing people skilled in ASL were helping us and I was able to carry on a conversation without botching it up too badly and to understand most of what the other person was saying. Since my son was born I haven't had the time so my skill has diminished. I was able to have a simple conversation with a deaf person the other night, and so was my husband, so that was good.

Michelle,
Yes most people do have difficulty with "receptive skills" reading other's signing. They memorize how to sign to others, but have to work on reading other's style of signing.
I'm hoping to complete the ebook mid April.
