View Full Version : Why Is Good Customer Service So Hard to Find?

On Wednesday, I took my daughter for a blood test. She is going over seas and the medical forms required a blood test.

We walk in and the gal starts asking question (very routine). Another girl comes in and says "I'll be observing". Ok, I ASSUMED she was a student.

The original gal puts the band on my daughters arm and starts looking for a vein. I know how tough it is to find my daughters veins. We've done this before. Many times they'll say "let me get someone else". So, I'm very used to the first person trying and trying to find one with her fingers.

Ok...I think she's found one. I'm almost impressed. She then looks at what I thought was the student and says "see if you can find it". Ok...that's fair. Everyone needs to learn.

Original gal gets the needle and then says to my daughter, "it's going in now" HUH?????????? We've never had anyone say that before. Why oh why did she say that?

She now can't find the vein and is digging around. As a mom, watching my daughter, I'm getting more and more upset. Finally I step in and say "you have to stop". Now the gal I think is th student says "we're only doing our job" and proceeds to take over.

Oh my goodness...I've made a horrible mistake....I let a student attempt to take blood from my daughter. I was in shock. My daughter is under 18. She's 17, but still 17 is considered a child and my daughter has very very hard to find veins. And they let a student TRAUMATIZE my daughter.

I was beyond angry. Several hours later my daughter was complaining of numbness in her arm.

I wrote an email to the corporate headquarters of the lab. Do you think they bothered to answer me? Do you think they bothered to say "is her arm ok?" Nope.

We will have to find a new lab. I don't think I can go back there.

Even typing this, I'm still in shock they allowed this to happen and put a student on my daughter.

I would never dispute that students need to learn. But don't put them on a child with very hard to find veins.

Oh wow Audrey...I sure don't blame you for being upset! :(

And I would definitely go somewhere else the next time. How is your daughter's arm now? If it keeps up, I would take further action. Not a good thing to let the head of the lab team have a student go digging around on someone's veins....let alone someone's veins that are hard to find.

I'm sorry you and your daughter had to go through that. I'm quite surprised they would let a student work upon your daughter. At the same time, I think if the student or anyone was having a hard time they should have spoken up and asked someone more experienced to deal with it. It's all about learning, but not at the expense on someone else's pain.

Is there a corporate number you can call and speak with someone directly or have you spoken to someone in charge from the lab?

I hope your daughter's arm is feeling better and you will get some answers on this horrible ordeal.

Thanks. Her arm is no longer numb or hurting, but there is still blood under the skin. They really did a number on her all in the name of teaching a student.

The letter I wrote went to corporate. They never answered me.
