Ok I have what I think is a great idea. I think it is A+, but how do I know if it really is good? Who do you bounce business ideas off of?
There is all this commotion on other forums about people brainstorming business ideas and then someone else taking that idea and running with it. The person with the idea originally is out of luck.
Would love some input.
As a general rule, I brainstorm on the phone or in IM with trusted (business) friends. Sometimes, it can be difficult to know who and how much to trust folks. Basically it will be people you have a "past" with and who have your best interests at heart.
I don't usually say much about my plans in public forums, blogs, etc. for the very reason you mentioned. As badly as I hate to believe it, there are people who are just out for themselves. The thing that keeps me positive and upbeat about that whole attitude is that I know somewhere, somehow, sometime, they will learn what it feels like. In my opinion, when people have to learn the hard way, it makes more of a lasting impression. ;)

I sometimes will ask different questions in different communities. I also use email, PM, the phone and IM.
It can be tough sometimes knowing who to trust, but there are many folks out there very trustworthy.

Collect different opinions and study each one critically asking professional assistance where necessary
