Do you advertise in any magazines? I have not advertised in magazines for quite some time, however when I did, I found it quite succesful. I was actually pleasantly surprised at how many people read the classifieds in magazines.

Another idea for magazines:

To recycle your old magazines, remove your home address and attach a lable that reads:

Compliments of
Your Name
Website

Leave them in laundromats, waiting rooms (if appropriate), etc. Any place you'd like a magazine to read while you wait!

You get to go a little green with recycling and advertise at the same time.

MaryAnn,

This is one of my favorite ideas :)

What a great idea, MaryAnn! If you purchase magazines that your target market would be likely to read, that may bring even more results!

I've considered doing some print advertising for FreelanceMom. That's encouraging that you had such a good experience with it Audrey. Any specific publications you'd recommend?

Lori,

I found some smaller mom and baby magazines that worked well for me. I also went for publications that were bimonthly, so their shelf life was longer. Do you have a Barnes and Noble? They have a huge magazine section. Visit the magazine section and find magazines in your niche. Then see which ones accept classified ads. Once you place your first ad, you'll get other publications calling you saying "I saw your ad in such and such and wondered if you'd like to advertise with us"

I'm also curious about what magazines you might recommend. Which ones did you feel you got the best response from? I've never really thought much about magazine advertising, I just assumed it was way out of my price range. For some reason, the back classified section never occurred to me. Do you have any idea what the general price range is for that type of advertising?

Andrea,

It's been a while since I've had ads in magazines. Pick up a few at the local Borders and call and get prices :)
