Do you give your kids allowance? I've never done allowance. I know others who do. What's your opinion on allowance?

This is more like an example. When I was younger, I didn't get an allowance per say (except when my dad would give me a dollar to find something he'd lost. haha). What happened in my home was we didn't get paid to do regular chores like vacuuming because we should've been doing them anyway. The bigger things like doing Christmas lights for my mom, washing the car, mowing the lawn were the types of things we got paid to do. However, we were not paid upfront. Each kid had money book and every time we did one of dads designated chores, we wrote it down, plus the date. During December, each kid got together with dad and tallied up the totals. It was critical we wrote everything down with that date. No date, no cash. It also made us wish we had done more during the year to make dad fork over the cold hard cash.

I dont think an allowance for things that are suppose to be done, like chores, cleaning room, things like that, but for extra stuff. I think that there is something to be said for that. It also helps them to learn about the value of the dollar, saving, and things like that. My opinion.

We used to give our daughter an allowance of between $5.00 to $10.00 a week depending on her age...with that being said, she would get deducted for not doing something, not doing it on time, bad reports at school, bad attitude or whatever.
