I got married a few months ago to a man who has a 4-year old daughter. She lives with her mom who is also remarried; she gained 3 older siblings from the new husband-mom and new husband have a baby together. Since the older siblings all call him Dad, she calls him dad also. Because she has 4 parents instead of just 2, we don't emphasize on the "step" part to not confuse her too much. She calls me by my regular name, which is fine with me.

Recently, she was in a program that also had a dinner in her neighborhood where she lives with her mom. As we were helping her get dinner, a woman in front of us said hello to my daughter and asked who these people were with her (her mom was helping the other children). She responded with a "this is my daddy...and...my aunt?"

Guess we need to emphasize who I am more often to her. haha

Christy,

I am smiling that you were able to smile. It can get confusing for kids, but sometimes confusion is because nobody makes a big deal about it, which again is just awesome

Iv'e seen some kids say "my dad and stepmom". I've seen kids say "my dad and his wife". I've seen kids say "my dad and my other mom". It's kind of whatever feels good to you.

We decided, like you said, not to make a big deal of it. I suppose her mom had a chat with her as over this last weekend, she talked about how I was her step mom. I am her other mommy. She continues to call me by my name, which is still cool. I'm just grateful her parents have a peaceful relationships and get to see her as much as we do!

Cute story :)

Kids say the funniest things. It is good for your daughter that everyone gets along. She is very lucky.
