I got married a few months ago to a man who has a 4-year old daughter. She lives with her mom who is also remarried; she gained 3 older siblings from the new husband-mom and new husband have a baby together. Since the older siblings all call him Dad, she calls him dad also. Because she has 4 parents instead of just 2, we don't emphasize on the "step" part to not confuse her too much. She calls me by my regular name, which is fine with me.
Recently, she was in a program that also had a dinner in her neighborhood where she lives with her mom. As we were helping her get dinner, a woman in front of us said hello to my daughter and asked who these people were with her (her mom was helping the other children). She responded with a "this is my daddy...and...my aunt?"
Guess we need to emphasize who I am more often to her. haha
