The life blood of an online marketer is traffic. I'm sure we can all agree on that.

I'd love to know what you all are doing to generate traffic. Both free and paid techniques.

I'll get us started. One of my favorite things, it's easy and free is Link Referral (http://www.linkreferral.com/adwel.pl?oldrefid=130844). I got over 100 hits on my blog in two weeks from this method.

Here's an article I wrote on my blog explaining how it works (http://internetmarketingtipsandtricks.wordpress.com/2007/10/20/drive-traffic-for-free-with-link-referral/).

Can't wait to hear what you all are using!

Forum networking is what drives traffic to my sites. Blogging, link exchange, some article writing and signature advertising all work for me.

Just wondering - do blogs really work?? I'm new to this whole thing - I wonder how much traffic a general blog does

Do you need to "target" the blog in some way? I assume so, right??

Hey Doug,

Blogging does raise traffic. I have a health & wellness blog that does and doesn't really tie in to my work at home website. While it isn't the main aspect of my website, it is a small part of it. Having a blog wasn't my intention of driving traffic to my site as it's more of a hobby for me and it was a category I'm interested in blogging about. As it turned out it fit well within my website's theme.

Other people who do use blogs to get traffic have a niche type blog, so yes it would be targeted.

Hi!

I think I do it a little differently, in some ways. I drive traffic to my blog. On my blog I have links to my businesses, but I also have the ability to make money directly from my blog.

If you are wanting to make money from a blog, I suggest you use a targeted topic and do some research on the market before you start.

If you are marketing yourself, any blog about something YOU love will drive traffic to your site. As long as you have a link on your blog, people will resonate with you and want to know what else you are involved in. :)

Good luck.

Jackie Lee :)

Thank you for sharing your thoughts
I like forum writing. This has bring some good traffic to my site. I just started writing articles with free article submitting software.
But most of my traffic comes from Paid method. I like PayPerClick (Yahoo is my favorite)

I use the Bum Marketing method because I like driving free traffic to my site by writing articles and linking back. It's nice to see how everyone else is doing it.

The majority of my traffic comes from search engines. I'm so bad about blogging and forum posting - I really need to do better with it. So I rely pretty much totally on my SEO efforts.

I do the following to generate traffic:

1. Make relevant comments on related blogs
2. Post to forums and message boards
3. Answer related questions in Yahoo Answers
4. Article Marketing
5. Squidoo
6. Utilize social networking sites
7. Social bookmarking

and the best thing I do....create more content!

My website automatically posts my newest pages as I create them onto my blog. So its kinda a 2 in 1 thing. I find that about 40% of my visitors enter my site through my blog, so its a great thing!

I am a sig line freak. Yes, I get most of my hits to my blog from posting on forums & social sites with my sig line.
My blog is where almost all of my business comes from. The rest is banners on profile pages at social sites.
I do go out & comment on blogs if I find one I like. So many blogs are on places like blogspot.... & I can not leave a link to my blog.
I also run a sig line on all those email jokes that your family & friends forward to millions of people.
