Hi all,

I was a Virtual Assistant for a financial analyst department. I am an I.T. contractor on top of my other online ventures.

A company, which was also virtual, was seven months behind on their critical projects. So, enter me...I helped each employee catch up fully. I worked in MS Excel for the most part. They each had these Excel workbooks with financial formulas and so on. I also did some Word and PPT projects for them.

Long story short, I finished up each chart from two quarters earlier. The charts kept track of every hour of every day...every week...every month...every quarter. So, I moved from quarter to quarter a virtual hour at a time until the previous quarters were complete.

Then I got them started on the current quarter. Finally, the Department Head was able to go to the corporate meeting and announce that they were all caught up. I got a lot of virtual hugs out of that one. I worked hard every day for seven weeks. Yes, in seven weeks, I brought them up to date after they were seven MONTHS behind.

Okay, I know this sounds like I slit my own throat, but I turned around and I told them how to stay caught up so that they wouldn't have to hire someone like me again. I couldn't help it, I didn't want to see such a nice group of people fall behind again.

The point of this post is to show you that you can get a decent paying and interesting wahm job. I also wanted to give out some details to show that it doesn't have to be like the typical wahm you see in the ads.

Congratulations Newbie Shield!

Well done! Pat yourself on the back!

I wish I knew MS Excel! I have a tutorial CD but I guess if you don't have data to manipulate in the program, it can be kind of confusing for an apprentice.

Anyway, Congratulations on your success!

That's right -- there are many opportunities out there in the Virtual Assistant niche. This is a good example of the type of gig you might land. Some are ongoing, others are temporary like this one.

Great job on educating the group -- it may very well seem like you are shooting yourself in the foot - but what you really did was gain their trust.

Should they decide to outsource again, you can bet you'll be their first choice. They'll also be much more likely to recommend you to other potential clients.

I'd follow up with a request for a testimonial to add to your website or keep until you have one.

Congrats!

Great job doing all that work. Its surprising how many people don't know how to use excel, word, or ppt! My neighbor called the other day because she couldn't see what she had just typed on her ppt--turns out all she needed to do was change the font color.

You'll definitely get referrals from the hard work you did!

You did a great job! Doing a job to the very best of your ability will only result postively for you down the road. Sure, you could have tried to stretch it out at their expense, but that would have been wrong.

What I have learned as a VA is that referrals are the best advertising out there. You completed the task with competence and enthusiasm, and they will most certianly be happy to refer you to their associates and colleagues.

You may want to touch base with them with a quick phone call. Ask how everything is going and ask them to refer your services to others.

Way to go!!! VAs like you help make our industry stronger!
