Can anyone here throw some light on technical writing?

sarathy,

I'm not sure how much you would like to know about technical writing, but I will add a couple comments.

What it is:

You know when you buy something such as a car, a coffee machine, a dvd player, etc? That is the end result of technical writing. There are other versions such as company policies or an online how-to. The technical writer prepares these documents.

My own experience:

I've played around with it as a hobby. I also applied for a technical writer's position right after I completed my second I.T. degree. This company wrote technical documentation for various big name companies.

I got past the initial phone interview/screening. Then I was tasked with creating a TOYS R US technical how-to document for navigating their online store. It was just part of the interview process. They didn't actually use it. However, I did move on to phase two of the interview process - face2face.

It was a three-person panel interview. Two of the interviewers seemed to like what I had to offer quite a bit, but one of them kept looking at me kinda funny. Maybe she thought I was the one that pissed in her cornflakes that morning.

Long story short, I was not hired. That's okay because I was getting sick of trying to get a technical writing job without any corporate experience in that specific sub-I.T. field.

Anyways, I find it to be a very interesting field. Writing how-to's comes very naturally for me.

Were you wondering anything else about this topic?
