Twixal

Ok, I don't like seeing forums with just a few replies, especially ones like this that are so vital to the success of ALL of us!
My small success story doesn't involve this forum (in the beginning) but I wanted to share how I got started and what I did to start along the path of achieving my goals!
I'm a total nerd, I love computer games and console games. Ok there I said it :) My husband, kids and I decided to start a gaming site, but honestly, how many gamers take the time to post on message boards? They want to visit a site that gives them information they need, right?
So while trying to make some money by making a gaming site, I learned about SEO, keywords, adsense, affiliates and a bunch of stuff that we all need to know to help grow our business. And ourselves!
I joined GetAFreelancer, ScriptLance, iFreelance, and a few other bid sites. Those come to mind off the top of my head. But I realized there are LOTS of communities out there for freelancers and work-at-home contractors/home business owners to share information and such, but VERY VERY FEW of them allowed their members to post advertisements, even in their siggy! So began Twixal.
On Twixal you can advertise anything as long as it isn't of an adult nature (because my kids see it daily). No real spam, but I totally encourage you to "spam" me and Asten with your portfolio, information about how you got started, how you maintain your working relationships with clients, how you found freelance gigs or work at home opportunities.
But before Twixal, before the gaming thing....
I've always wanted to be a writer. So after I registered on GAF and the other bid sites, I started bidding and winning bids. I started out with forum posting jobs and moved on to articles.
1 year later I'm still at the bid sites, I have 3 steady clients and I've made over $200 this month so far. It's not huge, but it's all profit. I don't get paid for the Twixal stuff I do because Asten hosts my portfolio there for me ;)
So, I just spilled my brains, it's your turn! What do you do? Why do you do it? How can I do it too? :)
Michele
