Just wanting some feedback on this.

Let's say I receive a phone call from a client or a prospect and it goes to voice mail. But then before I return the call, they call again.

What's best: Mention the call and apologize for the delay or ignore it and pretend like it didn't happen?

:work:

I would mention it. Depending on how much time has gone by will determine just what you will say. It's humbling to have to admit that you let a week or more go by without calling back a customer. However <tough love here> you really should return a call within 48 hours unless you've been away (vacation, sick, business meeting, etc.).

I have to agree, that much depends on how long you let the call go and why they're calling.

If I'm a client and I want what I've paid for, I may call 3 or 4 times.

If I'm a prospect and you haven't called me back within a day, I'm no longer a prospect.

typically, I call within 2 days. Sometimes, people call back the next day and I'm always stuck wondering should I mention it, should I not?

The phone is not my favorite device; I'd prefer to type.

Thanks guys! any other input?

If you usually get back to people in 2 days maybe you could leave a message on your machine to that effect.

Such as...

Hello this is (your name) with (your business). Sorry I couldn't get to the phone but, I will be sure to get back to you within 48 hours. Please leave your name, telephone number and (anything else you might require) and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

If this matter needs immediate attention you can reach me via e-mail @ (your email here) or call my cell phone (your number here)

If you are on vacation I would leave a message to the effect as well. Tell them when you will be getting back and that you will answer their requests as soon as you get settled back in. And again, refer them to your email but not your cell phone.

Also, if it does take you longer to get back to them then it does for them to call you back and get in touch directly I woudl deffinitly apologize and say... something...

I agree if I am a prospect and it takes you more then a day to get in touch with me. I am no longer a prospect.

Hope this helps.

Liz~

48 hours sounds SO much better than 2 days :D
