I was chatting with a successful friend of mine, and the subject of journaling came up. It’s something I’ve struggled with for some time. Yes, the most successful people do it. To me, it seems like more of a chore.
My friend Jannett showed me something that is so simple it just might work. She suggested that I use my journaling time to record what I’ve accomplished over the course of a day. His reasoning is as follows:

1) It makes me write
2) It makes me focus on positive things
3) It makes me center my thinking on all I’ve gotten done

In the past, I’ve turned in for the night and thought to myself “I didn’t really do very much today”. Now I have the opportunity to consult my journal and read in my own handwriting how MUCH I really did accomplish and why I should celebrate the day.
Please let me know if this technique is of value!

That's so interesting, because I view journaling the same way. Mostly a chore. I have a journal for each of my 2 kids that I keep, journaling thier individual pesonalities, accomplishments, setbacks, etc. I'm going to give it to them someday. I've gotten so used to typing that actually writing drives me crazy! lol How bad is that??

I'm a scrapbooker. Both of my kids have scrapbooks from birth to present.

Ugh I so wish I had the drive to scrapbook. I used to but don't have the room here at the house or the time it takes. I'm not a creative person at all, so it was a struggle for me. I did make one for my neice who will get it when she turns 16. She has no idea. The best part is my sister (her mom) doesn't ever take pictures so my neice has little to no pictures of herself and is always asking me to see them. I've got one started and am doing a page per year of life. I've got up to about age 4 done and she's 10 now so can we agree I'm behind? lol

My sister takes hundreds of photos. She made each of my kids an album. Each of them received their albums when they turned 16.

Anyway, keeping a journal of your accomplishments is a good idea. I think a lot of being successful is feeling like you are a successful person (success begets more success).. If you don't have that sense of accomplishment you don't have the feeling of success to build off of. It's reinforcement: if you reinforce that you have made good accomplishments then you will feel successful; if you don't reinforce the things you have done it's less likely you will feel success.

I think thats a very good idea cause if your ever having a day where it feels like you haven't gotten anything done then you can look at your journal for encouragement. I used to keep a journal but I haven't done a journal in a long time and I'm actually thinking about starting a journal again
