Such is the life of a freelancer. Nothing is certain or guaranteed until the check makes it to the bank. How do you all deal with the constant up and downs all the time? I'm doing well so far with managing my work with marketing/networking. But a string of projects have fallen through as of late and it's hard not to get discouraged. Microsoft called the other day liking my xp icons I made and they are swimming around in circles deciding on a new project they may have for me. It's been all about nurturing the client and waiting.
I guess the trick for me is to always keep networking even if it seems there are a few certain projects in view. But will anything come through for me? It's a little bit of a scary time for me since I decided last week not to return to my job at the enf of my maternity leave and work the freelance market instead. It's just a little scary right now.

Kelly, I know exactly how you feel. It is scary at first. But let me tell you something ... you have real talent. Beautiful, incredible, talent and that will take you far. The other thing you must have is faith.
I know it sounds a little silly, but I supported my entire family for almost 3 years as a freelancer. I did jobs I did not enjoy, worked for people I did not like, and compromised some of my ideals, however, I did it because I had to do it. I was the sole 'breadwinner' while my hubby was finishing graduate school.
The one thing that kept me going was my faith that jobs were out there, I simply had to find them. And they still are out there, in fact, the market is opening up as more companies realize the benefits of freelance, work from home contractors.
It will happen for you. I know it. Have faith in yourself, your talent and your ability to keep chugging along.
Best of luck!
I'll be cheering you on ...

I really appreciate the support. I guess it's just a matter of getting used to the pace and the ups and downs.
