I can cook well. So i had this idea of starting a home based catering business. However, I have to start from rock bottom. Definitely, i would need some resources for it. Has anyone been in this business for a while, who could guide me to put things in place and launch off this?

Are you wanting to cater a wedding or be a personal chef? Catering a wedding is going to require a commercial kitchen. A personal chef allows you to cook in the kitchen of your client.
Definately check the state health department laws in your state to begin with so you know what your options are.

Well... catering for a wedding is quite tedious and requires a lot of manpower. I thought i could just do some general catering for people who work for long hours and do not have time to cook. I thought cooking for hostelites could also make my service a sought after one.
Personal Chef's make GOOD money. Especially if you're in a city.
How's your business plan coming along?

I think your idea is exciting and you take off in so many different directions.
I have looked into this is the past and found that in most instances you need a commercial kitchen; however, I just read an article about a woman who advertised in her local paper that she would plan, and prepare the refreshments for your party. That sounded like a great idea to start off with as you could do the food prep in someone else's kitchen.
If you contact your Secretary of State they will send you the requiremments for starting your own food indusrty busness.
Good luck!

Thanks for your encouragement. I have started doing some research and homework about the business. My friends are also helping out a lot.
