Link exchanges are just one of the many ways to promote your web site. They are free. The search engines like them. So why would you not want to use them? I don't use link exchanges for two reasons:
1. It's hard enough to get people to come to your web site. Once you do get them there, why would you give them links to leave and lose a sale?
2. I use many of the other promotional methods (some free some not) to get people to visit my site so I don't have to rely on link exchanges.
